We are all set too, trying new hotel this year, newer Holiday Inn, across the street from the gates to fairgrounds.

We are booked at the holiday in also. We have not been for two years. So it's about time I get the money that Gus owes me.

I have booked my room also .
I see you are counting the days
102 I think at date of the post .
There is also something that I am counting
down the days for also, the days are 69

I always stay at the Red Roof Inn
a little drive to the show but not bad
at all .
They sent out a 1 day sale and offered
a 30 % discount on the rooms if you booked that
day , so that is what I did .

I hope to see everyone there and I
plan to hang out at the PH.com tables .
Maybe Brian will introduce me to some of the site
members that I have never met .

Joe--
I look forward to catching up with you in person. I know my father will be very happy to see you. At this point SOS is about the only out of town show he does with me, so he'll be glad to see you.

The fact that you're coming is the SECOND best news from this past week! \:D/

Cheers,
Peter

Oh crap, now what do I owe? I have been going though old Monopoly games at the thrift stores getting extra spending money for the show, a lot of the vendors can not tell it from Canadian money.

Their money certainly is colorful! Maybe you should try to draw some pictures on it. It will be good to see everyone. And I do mean everyone. I have half a mind to go back to shirts but there are huge number of people now days. Plus I don't know what size Steve wears. He has about everything else in the collection. So maybe he has enough T-shirts .

I will have a new dog this year. Her name is Molly and she is far better trained than I am or Daisy. I just put there's out as you consider how we are going to arrange the tables.

The table locations should be the same as last year, so would it help to request that one of the eight feet tables is a six foot table? I know that James gets four tables. Three eight feet and the end is a six foot table. I understand how you need room to get in, but what about if the last eight foot becomes a six foot table instead?

If that would work, call Bill Combs at OVMS and see if he can make this arrangement. I know this request has been granted before, and I don't think this should be a huge deal.

As far as room for Joe at our tables... His dog Molly is always welcome and we look forward to it, the dog is a chic magnet!!

But Joe, I do not know, has not shown up for 2 years, so me and m fellow table holders will have to have a conference call and discuss and get back to Joe. Now if Joe brings my Kuirass he promised me, then maybe I can bypass the call and give him a spot on the corner!!

We are planning on bringing it to the show. It takes a lot of space as there is a body form from the waist up. It has a wood Standard from the neck for your helmet. I will sell it to you for what I bought it for him but I can't remember if it was $2 million for $3 million

Hello to all ;

In an exchange of emails with Brian
I had asked if he could have me meet up
with members of the PH.com site that I do not yet know .
I would like to meet members who will be at the S O S 2017 .
So if you are at the show please come by the PH.com tables
and let's all say hello and meet .
I will be at the tables off and on Thur. and Fri.
when not walking the show
I think 2 days will be all I can manage
I am always broke by then anyway.
How about a post here of all who plan to be there ?
I know James & Paul LaB. ; Brian ; Gus and Col. J.
Maybe Brian could have a sign in sheet at the table ??

I am new to the site compared to other members .
Thanks
Steve

Good to hear that you and Janet are going to be with us Joe. We booked into the Ramada months ago so everything is set. Great idea Steve, I think that you have met all the members that I know but setting say a specific time where forum members can meet up on Fri, Sat might help. We do have a forum banner that gets put up. I think James has it?? Anyway, I think we should post the table numbers in a couple of places here on the forum so that members who we have never met can find us. We all have phones, so if someone new shows we can get back to the tables. Any suggestions from anyone to make this work better??

OVMS has issued a kindly reminder that beginning this year if you are a table helper you have to be an active member in good standing (in other words with your dues paid up).

Yes, however I have two people who joined last year at show for this purpose who paid then and still do not have their membership? I emailed ovms and they said coming soon, I hope so

Spouses (wives or significant partners) as well underage children get in with family - and that includes during set up on Thursday morning.

I'm looking forward to going to the show myself. For boarding I'm doing something different - an AirBnB place in Germantown. I'm renting a car, which I haven't done before for the SoS. This will enable me to see sights in Louisville.

I'm on the wait list for tables. If I get tables, then I'll bring a bunch of pickelhaubes and related headgear for sale. I'm helping my father sell off his 50 year old collection.

See you all soon.

Cheers, Mark D.

Didn't you have tables with Keith Gill last year?

I can recommend a visit to the Frazier History Museum, which is down town. It has a great collection of small arms, helmets and some armor. It had been a branch of the Royal Armouries - the only branch outside the UK, but sadly that deal expired. It has other temporary exhibits in that space. I heard last year was an exhibit on gangland and gangsters from the 1920s.

Keith and I did share a table last year and that was huge fun. Unfortunately, I was only a table helper, and apparently being a table helper doesn't give you any kind of seniority. Keith didn't apply for a table this year, so it's the end of the cue for me, or wherever the end of the cue was in mid-November when I sent my form to the OVMS. :(

Thanks for the tip about the Frazier History Museum. If I don't get a table, then I'll have some free time on my hands, particularly Wednesday and Thursday morning.

I've got some very great antique and out-of-print militaria reference books that I'll be passing on. My dad used to scour specialty book stores in Europe when on business trips there. I recall you saying that you liked to keep up a good library of this kind of thing, so you should stop by (if I get a danged table that is).

Good luck with the tables. If you don't get one this year I suggest you line up on Friday/Saturday when you can start to get in the queue. That does help a lot! I'd love to check out the books for sure.

I just got the news that I'll have two tables at the SOS! I'll have some pickelhaubes to peruse, so please stop by. I don't know my table location yet.

Best Regards,

Good for you Mark. That is one complaint I have about the SOS, they do not let us know our table numbers until you pick up your packet at the show.

Any hints on what helmets you will be bringing, of course the ones with Spikes on top :D

I always found that odd. I know where my tables are for the Baltimore Antique Arms Show and I've never been to the Tulsa Gun Show before but I already know where those tables will be for the show in April! :-k

Two weeks out. Right now the forecast is rain but temperatures in the 50s in Louisville. That is still better than snow and temperatures in the 20s!

I just found out that I will be TDY to the area and I will get to go to my first SOS. After years of being in Europe and now in Hawai'i I am pretty excited. Hopefully I can get a chance to meet some of the great members of our community!

Well it is official, we are not going to make it to the show this year, we are dealing with flooding and other problems (although my hangnail is healed up) and can not get away from the farm. We did make it to town today, the roads are closed and required a 4 wheel drive to get out. Cold weather has slowed the run off, but we have rain forecast for later in the week and we will be dealing with the same problems we have had for the past week. We are lucky as our house is on high ground but a lot of our neighbors are not so lucky. We will miss the gathering greatly but I have already sent my table money in for next year.

I forgot to mention that our book is in second printing and we will have them here in a few days if the UPS driver can get north of town.

I'm so sorry you can't make it Gus! It won't be the same without you. Honestly, I didn't know Idaho was dealing with flooding. The national news only talks about California! :x

Best of luck with everything. We will see you next year!

Right now a third of Idaho counties are under disaster declarations, you should hear of flooding in Idaho in a month or so, when the predominantly democratic county suffers flooding due to heavy run off from above normal snow pack. It seems that the only people who are important in this country are the ones who vote the "right" way. One reason we do not get the coverage is because in the red communities we all work together and get things done, in the blue communities, people seem to wait for the government to do it for them. Our biggest problem is our local government is busy putting up "road closed" signs to get in our way.

Talking about weather (and not to make poor Gus feel bad), it looks like we could have the best weather in years for SOS. It should be warm, which is never a bad thing for this show.

I'll take it over snow, ice and cold!

Thanks a lot, Peter, go ahead and rub it in. Our flood warnings have been extended into next week and they are thinking we may get over an inch of rain in the next few days, an inch may not seem like a lot, but on top of half a foot or more of saturated snow in an area where 8 inches is normal for a whole year, it will probably cause a few problems.
