More photos from the SOS:
This Bavarian filz was brought to the show for sale by James. It had 2 interesting characteristics, an original chin strap with neusilber fittings and a stamped support disc on the inside.
Image

Image
The disc reads: 1914 Carl Goldschmidt B Luckenwalde. This was very interesting as few manufacturers stamped the support disc.

Image
Janet Robinson at our table and the hauben we had for sale.

Image
A Hessen officer haube with a matching tunic.

Image

Image

Image M15 Kurassier with original chin strap, kokarden were the smaller infantry style. Cross on orb is missing, but the liner was in excellent shape..

Image A collection of wappen on Larry Stewart's table. I bought the 2 M15 tschako wappen. All of the Prussian line wappen were old style with screw posts. Too bad the 1850's bird was broken, or I would have bought that as well. Larry told me these wappen came from a "hoarder's house" which had been cleared out after his death. He had worked for an auction house during the 1950's and this is probably where these were bought. Nice Pioneer OR's wappen as well. There was a good selection of wappen for sale at the Show. There were 2 nice Bavarian brass OR's (brass) and a German dealer had a good selection which are shown in my first post.

Image
Fire officer helme on the left (crossed axes) and Grenadier on the right. Incorrectly identified as a Garde Dragoon.

Image
Swedish haube on the left, Landwehr officer (middle) then another unknown to me.

Image
More to come!

Yes, it is "the big one" for us here in North America. No other show can compare.
Some additional photos from the SOS 2017:

These painted markings were in a scrapper arty haube shell that I almost bought, however, the dealer wanted $210US for the shell, a broken wappen and kugel. I talked myself out of it but with the help of Chas, I took this photo to add to our markings collection. Foot Arty Regt 9, 1897, 2nd Batterie 1903, 5.B, IV.

Image This was a decent helmet for $950US and James and I went back for a second look but the red interior on the rear visor was all torn so, he passed on it.

Image A decorated piece....war art.

ImageKurassier tunic.

A selection from Weitze's table.

Wondered that myself. The shape of the shell and spike says "India" to me.

oh yes, there are plenty of bad helmets at the show as well, you need to be careful and sometimes ask for second opinions from others.

It looks like one of those copies made in England in the 70's.
It also appears that the M15 Arty has a brass Wappen. Maybe that's just the photo though.

For Sergei: But these are the last I have.

Image
Hmm.... interesting hat box.

Image
Looks like some kind of royal cypher on the inside...a "Crowned R", who could that belong to??

Image
Looks to be Bavarian from the state kokarde.....hmm...Bavarian royalty and a capital "R". :???: Can anyone think of a WW1 Bavarian nobleman who served in the war and had R for his first initial?? :)

Image

American medical officer spiked helmet. That is the last of my photos with one exception. I will be doing a post on the Bavarian General's wappen which will appear in the "Wappen/Helmet Plate" section of the forum. Thanks to James, we had a real one to take apart and photograph. There are fakes out there, so this will help members see what a real one looks like.

American helmet looks like an enlisted man's to me. Wouldn't an officer's have the chain chin strap and shield hooks?

Have no clue. I know nothing about the US version of the spiked helmet. The British "home service" officer would have the chained strap as you describe.

British other ranks helmets have chinchains and rossettes on the side. The difference is that OR helmets have leather trim generally and a rounded front visor, whereas the officer versions have pointed visor with brass trim (or silver metal if the spike and hardware is silver obviously).

I think the American helmet is an enlistedman's version.

That is Steve's PB 10 officer helme which he picked up later on at the show. The visor cap belongs to Prince Ruprecht of Bavaria!

The visor cap for the Prince complete with case was a pleasure to hold and look at, quite the piece.

Thanks Brian, nice looking helmet! Yes, Ruprecht used to borrow my stuff all of the time. What a cool piece! I was at the prince's 'house' in Munich... I should've asked if they had any helmets for sale. (One never knows!)

Thanks for posting the photos! Can anyone tell me whose table that was in the photograph above with Würtemburg officers haube and the Prussian artillery haube on the green /field grey table cloth? It was the photo that followed the photos of the table from Helmut Weitze. Thanks
