Helmets and gear collected from the battlefield

Interesting photo indeed! Quite sharp and detailed, thanks for posting. This is a real assortment of obviously non-combat personnel, some wearing the prewar Litewka and Waffenrock and a mishmash of fatigue and possibly civilian clothing, and the NCO's apparently representing various units...

    M16 with an Uberzug

Hi Alex - To reply to your inquiry and Lars' comment, not only is the stamp an egregious forgery, but the cover itself very closely resembles the fakes making the rounds in the 1980's and 90's, mostly in Europe. I have one of these covers that came from a Belgian dealer 25 years ago, who...

Feldgrau Attila and Field cap (Schirmmütze) from the "Kgl. Sächs. 3. Husaren-Regt. Nr.20"

An interesting and thought provoking discussion on a great uniform and cap. I would side with the "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder" crowd, and to hell with the reasonable collector to collector price. If ever had a chance at an issue M-1907 enlisted infantry tunic with no NCO collar...

    Joe Robinson Depot Marks

Thanks to all on this forum for restoring the wonderful reference files so we can again access them. These have been a great asset over the years. Bob

    Instant Button Collection

This is great to see, Alan. They look like the same photos as you put on WAF. Can anyone tell me why the resolution is so much better on this forum? Bob

    Collector Story Steve McFarland

I was also on hand in the '70s for some of the action related in the above collector tales, and I can vouch for their voracity (excepting for the women and wine part, that's a little fuzzy for me now). I fist met Steve McFarland then at the OVMS shows in Cincinnati. Just reading this thread...

    Minneapolis Show

Great find on the photo, Jim. I guess I missed that one, and from one of my favorite regiments, too. I'm still looking for the 115th EM helmet. Nice to see you and your family at the show, Jim. Bob.

    GdC Restoration Project

About 10 years ago my daughter in L.A. asked if she could have "one of your old spike helmets" to wear while riding her Harley. After stifling a gasp I informed her the only one which she could get on her beautiful blond head was a J.z P. worth about 2K, making it a somewhat expensive bike...

    Shako

I have a shako cover with almost identical makings to the same Flieger Battalion, and the same date. I made clear photos but I have no idea how to post them here. Before I post them elsewhere I thought it would add to this discussion nicely. I can email them to anyone who can post them...

    Shako

Joe, this has been an interesting opinion poll, a larger sample would be better. I'm kinda on the fence myself, but leaning towards "thumbs up".

Perhaps he could repost, I don't want to misquote ( a carryover from election phobia )

    Shako

Thanks for your replies, Joe and Phillip. I also saw one from Roy last night. Then it went poof (...). What happened? Bob

    Shako

Joe and Phillippe, could you tell us what there is in particular about these markings that you both find suspect? For instance, is it the style of font for the lettering and numerals, the spacing, faulty abbreviations, or what? I think that a number of collectors would be taken in by these...

    Worth Grabben or??

You should all be thankful you did not buy this piece of junk. My sympathy or rather pity to the one who did. Bob.

    Meck. field badge

If you send me a PM I'll take pictures of the original Meckl. field badge in my collection and send them to you. You may then post them for me on this forum as I am unsure how to, exactly. I think I can get pretty good details on the braid, too. Bob
