The size 60 shell is really small In stahlhelm terms. A big stahlhelm is 68 cm. This helmet fits between 52 cm - 54 cm. It is stamped B.A.L. 1911.

    My latest project

This one will require some work but I think it will be successful. It is quite small. In stahlhelm terms, I would say it is a size 60 shell. This was a 12th Jaeger Regiment helmet.

Good methods to reshape leather helmet shells?

Thank you. Here is the pickelhaube. It may have been on its side and crushed somewhat in a box. I want to open it up a bit. My strategy is to keep it on the hat block and leave it in the sun to warm up for a couple of hours.

    Bavarian Pickelhaube restoration

Thanks all. The work was a bit tedious and I certainly poked my fingers a few times. This was my first Pickelhaube and it came from “out of the woodwork.” It deserved my focus and attention. I am very happy with it.

I have a pickelhaube that is misshapened. What techniques have you used to bring back into proper shape? I cannot begin resewing the brims of this helmet until the leather shell is somewhat correct.

    Bavarian Pickelhaube restoration

I used WW2 linen thread that I coated in wax to attach the brims for this Bavarian Landser helmet. Here are some before and after images.
