Brass Picture from the " Großherzog Baden " Fleamarket

Very nice, congratulations! The patina on the metal looks really nice, so I would leave that as it is, but I would fix the frame, as it just looks damaged. Regardless of what you do, an excellent find. Regards, Lars

IR13 Westphalia Infantry Regiment Herwath von Bittenfeld

Hi, One of my great uncles passed through I.R. 13 during the First World War, he was an Armierungssoldat (construction soldier) and I.R. 13 was his Ersatztruppenteil (no idea how to translate that :)). I don't have a lot of items, but I'll show what I have. Regards, Lars

    Baden Landwehr M95

Thank you for your kind offer Wojtek, but even sending empty ammo clips is a sure way of getting unwanted police attention :) I don’t mind that it’s shrunk, I have enough “unshrunk” ones. Regards, Lars

    Baden Landwehr M95

Hi Wojtek, I don't want to capture the thread, but I really like how you have recovered these old leather battlefield finds into something useful. I've only done that once, with the parts from at least two battlefield WW I German ammo pouches. The result (black pouch on top) looks nice, but has...

(Near) Mint Shoulder Straps on Ebay

Hi Steve, I don't want to name sellers here as I don't know whether the shoulder straps are originals or fakes, and it could be a false accusation. I sent you a PM. Regards, Lars

Hi Kirstin, The Wappen looks fine and original to me, I don't see any signs of resoldering. The slits for the Wappen remain a mystery to me, as well as the unusual "cracking" of the black lacquer, and the unusual location for the unit marking. My advice is to take your time and find out what...

(Near) Mint Shoulder Straps on Ebay

Hi, The past half year I have noticed that there is a steady stream of (near) mint shoulder straps for sale on Ebay US. If there is any wear and tear then that is typically located at an inconspicuous spot. I have (possibly very naively) always thought that the repro shoulder straps are quite...

Hi Hermit, The helmet looks original, but imo the marking of 3. J.R. means it started out as a Bavarian helmet, no Prussian unit with that name existed in 1898. For the holes for the eagle I would expect grommets, not slits, but maybe Bavaria did things differently? Regards, Lars

Hi Rob, So you don’t want my (our) ideas about that? Looks like a nice helmet :) Regards, Lars

    Prussian 1906 Field-Gray Versuchshelm

Hi Gabe, Looks like a Versuchshelm (trial helmet) from 1906, when they were running field trials on field grey uniforms and equipment, quite a rare bird :) The spike on top has been replaced, it used to have a spike without studs and elongated holes, and the special disc on the inside of the...

    Garde pioneer flamethrower

Hi USN, Interesting postcard! I'm not so convinced the sender is "Schlodder", rather someone that references the 2nd company and Ltn Schlodder, as sender details were typically written like "Abs. rank (first name) last name, unit information" which I don't see here. The sender's information...

    Bavarian Plumes

Hi Mike, The type of hair for the Pickelhaube bush was specified in the Bekleidungsordnung. In the 1903 version for the enlisted men and NCO's, horse hair was specified, and in the 1895 version for officers, buffel hair was specified. In my quick review of these documents I didn't find any...
