    Museum Recommendations?

Hi all, I'll be doing some solo travel through Europe before I start grad school. I'll be passing through Belgium, Netherlands, and northern Germany before making my way to a friends house in Saxony. Can anyone recommend me their favorite museums for imperial militaria? Perhaps one of the...

    Personal Grail item

If you're interested in imperial German aviation I'd recommend Eagles of the Black Cross by Musciano. Very good overall coverage of the air war between 1914-1918 from the German perspective. It'll also show how Richthofen, though a very talented and cunning hunter in the air, was far from the...

Centennial Commemoration badge for the Garde Schützen Battalion

Here's a gunshow find, a badge commemorating the 100th anniversary of the raising of the Garde Schützen battalion. It's very similar to the Jäger shooting prized, but with the addition of two bandeau's: "1814-1914" and "Vive le roi et ses Chasseurs" The gilt on this is absolutely beautiful.

Officer 18 DRAGOON MECKLEMBOURG + PICTURES

I concur, more photos of this lovely helmet please!

Just got this piece this morning! M1910 officer visor for the Braunschweig 92nd infantry!

No I wouldn’t fret over this. From what I can see, there doesn’t appear to be pin holes where a TK would’ve been mounted. Randy himself explained to me when I inquired about this cap months ago that while yes, during the period, many 92nd caps would’ve had a TK, it was more accessory than...

Saxon Officer’s Helmet - Medical company

A Württemberg would be lovely but I feel it is too similar to the Bavarian design since I’m going for diversity. Baden I think is where I’ll go next

Saxon Officer’s Helmet - Medical company

Oh no I didn’t have any worries about it. Thank you, and yes I’m happy with the outdoor shots as I believe natural light = best light. I actually had to rush to get these pics in under 5 minutes otherwise the heat would’ve messed with the lacquer

Saxon Officer’s Helmet - Medical company

Hi all, got this helmet in person from AoK earlier this year but I don’t think I showed anyone. It’s a lovely Saxon officer’s pickel with typical Saxon qualities such as the tall dome, non serrated cockades and the squared visors. The only thing that keeps it from being a “purebred” Saxon is...

    Bavarian Infantry Officer

Thank you, the liner is just how I like them. No damage but the wear shows that it was at least used by its owner

    Bavarian Infantry Officer

Bavarian Pickelhauben have many exceptions and I am by no means well versed in them. From my understanding the Bavarian cockades have relatively many variations and this is one of them judging by the two piece design (the blue circle here is a separate piece). Some I’ve seen have the double...

    Bavarian Infantry Officer

The set also came with a cover, it’s a nice faded tan example with signs of its original feldgrau still visible inside. Miraculously the celluloid piece inside the cup is only broken in one spot at the front, and the entire rear visor piece is still intact.

    Bavarian Infantry Officer

Hi all, This recently came in and I’m quite content with it. It’s a Bavarian infantry officers Pickelhaube in a vulcanfiber construction produced by Depeheg. The lacquer finish has minimal crazing as is typical for these fiber shells and the Wappen still retains 95-97% of its original gilt. The...

    Original or messed-with chinscales

I appreciate your input, and I would’ve never noticed how cartoonishly long the first scale was without you pointing it out. I will be posting more images of the helmet soon Another point I noticed earlier today was that the chinstrap leather ends are not only still attached and in the...

    Original or messed-with chinscales

Compared to my other officers helmet where the hole has no excess and the prongs are longer

    Original or messed-with chinscales

just a suspicion but perhaps this may be something more common with fiber helmets perhaps? Maybe due to the fragile nature of the material it’s a bit harder to punch a clean hole

    Original or messed-with chinscales

Hi all, I’m far from a beginner in the hobby but I do have a beginner type question; it’s something I’ve never been able to figure out. That being, how does one judge whether the chinscales on a private purchase/officers helmet are original or has been messed with. So the other day a lovely...

    Cloth Covered 1895 Filzhelme

My favorite ersatz variant. Hard to believe these were originally feldgrau and not tan

    Naval Wound Badge

I hate myself because the day after I ordered this, the dealer listed a MINT gold example which I missed and was sold to someone else.

    Naval Wound Badge

Here’s a very nice piece I paid dearly for, but it was worth it as I have seen only a couple ones in better condition. Silver wound badge for naval personnel. These would’ve mostly gone to coastal troops considering the chances of being wounded multiple times on a U-boat or a surface vessel...
