Tony--
We all wish our helmets could tell their story, but this one has so many tales to tell I'm sure! Very nice helmet.

Hi Tony

I only can say: wonderful :)

Indeed, this type of helmets, reused and reused, is very interesting. I have also seen 6 holes made on a 1860 shell at different periods, on the back and on the front of this shell. Finally this shel was re issued for a Reservist.

The Wappen plate of the Guard Eagle with this typical system of 1867 is marvelous. It was mainly for Prussian Wappen. As far as I know, the Saxons did not use it on their 1867 helmets, for exemple.

Once again, I support democracy: the oldest are the best.

Best regards

Hello Eric,

I am pleased you like it. I have an Oldenburg example with this M67 slider system as well.

I agree with what you said about Sachsen (Saxon) helmets. I have two other M67 helmets without rear spines, one Baden and one Hessen, but they do not have the slider system either.

Based on others I have seen, I believe that like Sachsen (Saxony) Baden and Hesse did not use the M67 slider system.

Yes Tony !

Just to portary your comments:

Find below pictures of my 1867 Sachsen helmet

And pictures of an re issued 1867 helmet, unfortunately uncomplete:

Sorry for the bad light, but is getting dark in Europe at this hour!

Best regards

Congratulations Tony on another fascinating find for your collection. I love these older helmets with their high domes and thick gauge of leather. Well done Sir!!

Tony,

Great helmet! The Franco-Prussian War is one of the most fascinating conflicts of modern times, Clausewitzian theory put into action.

Now you need one of these to go with your M1867!

This is my Dreyse Zundnadelgewehr Mod 1862, Suhl manufactured 1869 (Tony already has photos of this, just thought I'd share with the forum).

Hmm.......what to display with my Preußen Model 1867 Garde Grenadier Pickelhaube? How about a rather scarce Model 1867 Preußen Water Bottle?
