Hauben in the Sun

It was a beautiful fall day today here in the neighbourhood. An excellent day to add yet another coat of finish to 4 hauben projects. As I have mentioned many times, natural sunlight is the best light for restoration whether it be stitching or refinishing. We see here the Wurtt. Dragoner, the huge P...

Yes the PM problem for curious_CN led to a whole upgrade of our database and the PhpBB operations system which runs the forum. Tech support had to remove everything upgrade to a newer version of Php and then reinstall all data, so it took time and effort. It was a very complex operation from my limi...

All I know Bill, is that George Birringer told me years ago that he used the natural shellac flakes and that was good enough for me. The work on the outside finish of the 126th helmet was begun today. First, a light sanding of visors and shell then a cotton ball wet with lacquer thinner is used to melt the dust into the crazings and smooth things out. https://photos.smugmug.com/Before-Helmet-Restprations/i-6CBV4qv/0/6d9a1f48/L/IM...

The JR 126 helme is small , a size 54cm. fittings were very oxidized, brown in colour. Both visors on this piece had been glued on by a previous owner.
