The reason the steel helmet is classified as a weapon is the same reason that there were WMDs found in Iraq before the First Gulf War. In the United States, a gas mask is classified as a defensive weapon, that makes it a weapon of mass destruction because it is used in chemical warfare. It is stupid...

That would be a later harness, and one would expect a steel bottle, but there is no set rule as salvaged early waterbottles might be reissued with new covers and straps.

The correct cup would match the material of the water bottle. If it is aluminum, it was likely issued during the first year of war and would usually have an aluminum cup. Hey Peter, James LeB says mine is a miner's helmet. I have heard that from a number of people, and the corrugated dome would lead me to think they were designed heavy low velocity blows. They could have been based on such a helmet, like the Adrian was influenced by the classic fireman's helmet.

You should spend more time on the forum and less in bars. This type of Wappen has been discussed a number of times, with many examples shown and even period photos showing the helmets in use. :)

This is a well know type of Wappen that affixes with a single screw to an ersatz helmet. It dates form 1914, later they were made of steel due to the shortaces of tim to make brass in Germany.

Hey Peter, It turns out my first thought was right, it is Swedish, I think the tunic the Collector's Guild has listed as Danish is actually Swedish. I have found a Swedish back pack on the Collector's Guild site with the same markings but dated 1916.
