There are no markings in either the cover or the helmet. I got the tsapka and cover several years ago but I don't remember where. I do remember that the pair was rather cheap <$600. The helmet is a M1915 Wuerttemberger.

For preservation, I would use Ballistol, it was developed by the Germans and has no deleterious effects on wood or leather.

It's the Centennial Year and time to thin-out the collection. I'll have lots of parts, some pointy topped hats and some flat-top hats, maybe even a brush topped hat. Buckles, belts and other debris will also cover my tables.

It's a real one. I have had two and seen a few more. The only lances I've ever seen with makers marks were Argentine exports all Weyersberg marked.

What is the value estimate of an Imperial issue lance with the original shoulder sling? The only marking on it is the weapon number on the spike point.

I have a book by Goertz & Wacker that includes TO&Es for all branches in 1914. Cavalry regiments were issued KAR98s but no bayonets whereas Fuss Artillerie units were issued KAR 98s with S98/05 bayonets. Telegrapher troops were also issued KAR98s with bayonets.

I consulted Jeff Noll and a collector friend in Germany, both feel that the unit marking is to an Infantry Regiment and that the "SM" is probably a regimental honor title.
