Re: Inherited Pickelhaube- help!

Oh, you might be right about the trim being brass. Then it is a model 1914.

This helmet can be somewhat restored..it would take quite a bit of work though.

The eagle would be brass then

Re: Inherited Pickelhaube- help!

This is a prussian enlisted man felt pickelhaube....looks like a model 1915 version since the front Visor trim is grey. Looks like you need an eagle plate for the front still.

What does the inside look like?

Re: Pickelhaube ersatz

Hi, Pickelhauben is right that this would probably work great for felt and even leather, but this is cork. It will probably not work for a cork helmet using this method. Usually when a cork helmet is indented like yours, the cork is fractured into several small pieces making it difficult to reshape....

Re: Pickelhaube ersatz

Yes and no....it would take some "gentle" bending of the rear spine to raise the spike. But the cork is probably cracked and broken too much so it might just fall back in. Because of how rare this helmet is, I would probably just leave it as found. PS....this is an excellent helmet...my favorite type!

Lexol on liners and chinstraps is a very touchy subject for me. One you Lexol it, you can't go back. Lexol will darken all leathers. And most of the time the helmet ends up looking like a greasy old catchers glove. Ebay UK is full of greased up helmets, I don't know, maybe they like the stuff over t...

Well that is good to know that the US has no import fees. So all I was sayin' is that one really should CONSIDER ALL t...

Re: Michael Baldwin Collection auction part 1. 31 January

You guys REALLY need to read the fine print......this auction has a 30.6% buyer's premium. And you have to consider the UK pound exchange rate (and don't forget shipping). So let's do an example..... Lets say you win a pickelhaube in this auction for, say, 900 GBP. -Add the buyer premium.... 900 X 1...

I would definitely changed out the posts to m15 steel. Then the whole helmet will match and you will have a perfect example of a complete Wurttemberg felt helmet.

I like the m15 plate, I see you scored that one from Age of Kings........ :D

You are so right Brian. 90% or so of all M15 spike usually fit the base, but I have come across a few where the do not. That's why I would never just buy a lone spike, but instead wait for a matching spike and base. I have even come across officer helmets where spikes and bases don't match up too. B...
