Found a better picture of the helmet 500px-AQ_stick3.jpg When looking for these pics, I came across this one from the film; AQWF helmet.png Not only is there no lug, there isn't a vent hole. Also note chin strap is attached to "D" ring and liner pin heads appear to be small. It maybe a prop helmet (...

Re: Steel Helmets with out ventilator horns

In the original "All Quite on the Western Front"(1930 Directed by Lewis Milestone, it stars Louis Wolheim, Lew Ayres, John Wray, Arnold Lucy and Ben Alexander) there is a scene where John Wray as Himmelstoss is wearing a helmet missing a lug.

Does yours still have a WOI liner ?
I assume you are asking about the helmet I have missing the lug? Mine is a full military helmet, camo with the 1917 liner. The helmet came out of a VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) post 50 years ago.

Re: Steel Helmets with out ventilator horns

I have one that is missing one. Between the wars they had a steel helmet that looked like the military (m16,m17,m18) helmet, but was for civilian use as what is called a "hard hat". It is possible that some surplus military helmets may have been reworked for this roll.

I can't say about Kurassierhelm, but I have had other helmets that were mixed parts. I have a Pioneer helmet, that was brought back by a family member, it is mixed. I believe that helmets that they knew would only be worn in the rear areas with covers, got made with varying parts.

In Randy T's book he has a printed flyer that was given out showing spikes and an garde uhlan without the star.
They had hundreds of them.
You see more m-15 without the star than with.
If they all had had stars - you would think stars without eagles would show up more often.

I sold it back in the days before everyone had a camera in their phone (other than Dick Tracy), in the mid 70's. I did have some photos of stuff but no idea what happened to them. Let see when I sold it the helmet would have been a little over 50 years old and that was about 50 years ago.
