Re: Prussian Pioneer Ersatz Felt Helme

Hi, I have a similar helmet with the leather strip "back spine", that came out of a large WW1 US 5th Division Officer trunk grouping that I bought in MN a couple of years ago. I took some pics of it, but they didn't turn out very good. I will try to shoot better pics of it and post them this weeken...

Nice work! Does the glue dry clear after?
No it does not.
You have to come back and sand on top of the glue with course grit sandpaper.
When doing this the blackish area turns whitish and blends in better with the felt back ground.
That is the next step.

Thanks guys for the positive comments.

Re: Restoring Another Felt

Here is the set up that I used to press the dome back into shape.. This can be used on a standard leather haube EM or Off. To use this on an Off's helmet you need to slide a rod through the side holes and secure the rod to the twist handle of the hat stretcher. I used a large washer to put on top of...

Restoring Another Felt

Hey Guys, I got this felt off of a forum member when I was seeking basket case felts.( I still am looking for them ) The dome was sunken in and the rear stitch line was torn along with the spike base. I was able to put the dome back into shape using an antique hat stretcher, a threaded eyelet , spik...

Pioneer Wurt Felt ??

Hey Guys,

Has anybody ever seen or heard of a Pioneer Wurt felt helmet ?
I am rebuilding a felt that has several tears on it and a silver EM plate I have fits perfect on it.

But I have never seen a picture of one in the 25 years that I have been collecting.

Remember it is just paint.
The old will come off with the new.
Several steps can be taken with new paint to make it old again.

Yes actually an easy fix. The easiest way is to use thick super glue . Materials 1. thick super glue with zip kicker (kicker will instantly will set the glue) 2. Dremal or sand paper 3. Black shoe dye. 4. Black shoe polish. 1. Run a bead of the thick super glue in split trying to keep the bead on ou...
