Re: Bismark Commemorative Coin

938 is a mark for German sterling silver. In the U.S. sterling silver is usually 925, but I have seen 938 commonly on German pieces. I'm not sure if you can use that mark on a plated piece, or just a solid silver piece. Are there any other proof marks that you can see? John :) Maybe it was also pre...

Re: Bismark Commemorative Coin

The translation SkipperJohn is really good. Think the Medal is out of bronze and could have been silver plated. It was released in 1905, in memorial to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Otto von Bismarck (1st of April 1815). It was pressed by A. Werner & Söhne, a fabricator of Armee stuff, Medals...

Hessen helmets are also an exception to this rule.
Thank you for this information, thought the differentiation for the chinscales was valid for bavarian Helmets till the end :bravo:

Could it be also Haidacher? Found some Josef Haidacher‘s on ancestry.com. But unfortunately no Cavalry, just Infantry.
Or was it opposite and the arched Chinstrap means infantry not Cavalry?

Did you find the Name also inside the Helmet? You should investigate in the bavarian War- or Peace- Parent roll for further informations. May be you will be able to find some informations about the owner :thumb up:

The main thing which strikes me about these photos is that the helmets seem way too small for the men’s heads. I know these were hand-me-downs, but, even so... The Helmet size looks ok for me. If I remember right, the Side-Edge of the Helmet should be 3cm above the Ear and the Frontvisor-Trimm shou...
