Thank you Steve, I‘m glad that you like it too :)
Unfortunately I had to restore one of the Chin-Scales because the previous owner fixed it with Tape, but now the glue of the Tape can‘t damage the materials of the Helmet anymore..

Re: Interested in pickelhaubes, would appreciate opinions

I‘m sorry, but I would abstain. The Oldenburg-Star looks like fake or somebody took an EM-Star and tried to cut out parts of the Crown to imitate an Officer-Star. It has lack of the fine details of an Oldenburg Officer-Star. Oldenburg-Helmets are rare items and therefore not cheap. If something appe...

Unfortunately the pics don’t have a good quality, so it is not possible to see if it isn’t a fake Helmet.
But if real, it is a rare reserve Officer-Helmet of IR 91 (Oldenburg).

Re: YouTube fireman helm restoration - some interesting ideas

Restoring objects is what I was trained for, most important is that the item should be brought back in his original condition (as it was before the restoration). To me this helmet is ruined. That’s what I think too. The original look is the best choice, but when a restoration is necessary, the same...

I know that within the U.S. military, bands are a unit unto themselves, some are contract musicians. My reason for asking information about bands is I'm trying to figure out what Troddel or bayonet knot they would have worn. Within the Imperial German Army there were a number of independent units t...

I see the blame for the war not only in Bismarck. The Prussian king Wilhelm had already agreed that Prince Leopold would decline the candidacy. The demand that it should be ruled out forever that a Hohenzollern ascended the Spanish throne was just as great an imposition for Prussia as the Emser desp...

Sandy, I will be using aniline dye for colour. I’m looking forward to see the results :) I’m sure you that the aniline dye should work as well as lamp black. I don‘t think that the lamp black will have influence to the characteristics of the dye. Guess it was a normal and a cheap pigment for a blac...

Yes, lampblack, the soot from inside the glass chimneys on old kerosene lamps? Is it available commercially?
