"(...) We know that the Germans never threw anything out which could be revamped/repaired and reissued (...)" That is absolutely true, Brian! The only thing they ever threw out on their own initiative was a well-used and obsolete old Kaiser :D Oh yes, I certainly agree on the thickness and quality o...

Re: Named Officer Helmet From Iowa

Hi Brian! I think the name is Tünemann, with a T. Those German letters always were a bit of a bother, especially in the past, but also to a certain extend in the present. Doing things differently, that's what Germans like :D I've said it before, I'm saying it now, and I will undoubtedly say it again...

This is the kind of thing that I would only consider real if I had dug it up myself, during one of my dozens of vacations in Verdun. There are SO many fakes, and SO much misplaced cretivity is used on them!

I know very little about Tschakos. However, seen from the side the shape look completely wrong - even to me. The lower part of the body should follow the shape of the backside of head, and then towards the top should become considerably smaller.

Going, but not gone yet (grin)!

Greetings all! I've been kind of AWOL for some time, due to the rather imbecilic fact that I went far too late to see a doctor with a range of complaints that for too many years I'd ignored in a careless manner. Result: what must have started already years ago as a simple and easily repairable case ...

Possibly a "spent" bullet indeed, i.e. one at the end of its trajectory. It also may have been a "grazing shot", which is actually quite likely when we look at the particular kind of damage. Either way, Hesi, you have a truly wonderful first helmet here! Good find! What I would do about it is... not...

Disproportional amount of "Jansens"

A silly question, that for some reason popped up in my silly mind. In the days of my large Pickelhauben collection in the 1980's/early 1990's, I had a disproportionally large number of helmets made/stamped by Julius Jansen in Strassbourg. If I remember correctly, one or possibly even two (!) out of ...
