Congratulations Amy! I saw one of these once, many years ago, but did not buy it. It was in the days before the internet and some "expert" told me that they never used stitched leather around the bottom edge of a felt or cloth Pickelhaube. I could kick myself for believing some of the advice I hear...

Helmet 5, most interesting of all.

No rear spine and no evidence of any holes drilled on the steel body or the visor.

sorry this one is the liner for helmet 2, which I think it is rear spine is incorrect with it touching the spike base and having a foldable end.

Haven't studied it thoroughly.
Two sets of holes, someone cut a side for the guard and the guard plate has been there for a long while.
The hole punch at the two of the liner fingers is interesting.

Hey John, I don't have the rear spine for kit helmet. They are sized as well I have about 5 kit helmets and the sizes are different. The rear spine sit lower and they have two screw posts, one near the tip and the other one at the bottom. How did you manage to get a kit helmet without the rear spine...

I have one as well. It is an arty with crossed base and mine has been refurbished as well but mine has black leather covering up the old holes I would like to see pictures of your Arty Hessian if that's possible. :) Mine has also black patches on the inside were the old holes were, just like on Amy...

The smaller pair of holes are original and the "further apart" pair is newly made to accommodate the plate. The thickness of the brass eyelets is wrong. Well I don't know how many helmets that is worth, council tried pushing the blame to the contractors, so will wait for their loss adjustor to assess the case.

Hopefully as what you have said its worth a few helmets :army:
