Thank you gents for your nice comments. I am actually very happy with this one. It is such an iconic and rare (not mentioning the condition) piece of French military history.

Prussian shako troop M15

Dear All

A reasonably recent acquisition, this nice shako for EM mod.15.

All original, and never cleaned. Not a rare piece but I like its originality and its sleepy condition.

Some marking (1916) and a clean interior.

Any comments are welcome.

French képi for a dragon of the 9th reg. 1914

Dear All A recent acquisition of mine to complete my French headgear collection. This a beautiful képi for a French dragon EM of the 9th reg. of dragons based in Epernay (north of France). A regiment which was heavily involved in the first months of the war and sustained heavy losses. The képi is in...

Re: Rare Original Photo showing a Riveted Visor Depaheg Patent Pickelhaube being worn

Very interesting picture. Good to see the helmet still in use in mid-1915

Having one in hand and judging by the flimsiness of those toy-helmets, I hope those guys will have survived head injuries until the introduction of the M16.

Pickelhaube for a Prussian line infantry officer

Dear All A recent acquisition from Germany. A well-worn but still beautiful shape, helmet for a line-infantry officer of the Prussian State. The body of the helmet is made of vulkanfiber, hence the very good overall shape. A lovely helmet I find, with a great patina overall. Clearly, a piece which h...

Hi Guys Thank you for your opinions which, I believe, have good points. Re: M16 four colours camo

the chinstrap is long gone but one of the hooks has remained. Interestingly, it has been twisted and the head of the rivet holding it was hammered down flat to prevent the chinstrap from falling away. A common occurrence on those helmets.

Very nice piece. Is helmet dated and sized? Chin strap may have been repaired (in service), so the miss match on buckles. Strap does look a little shorter, in that the buckles don't meet in the center.
Yes. Size is 56 and date is 1916.

The chinstrap presents an interesting feature: the buckles are different both in colour (one is painted in the same colour as the other parts of the helmet, the other one is not) and in size (one is clearly thiner than the other). The thin one also shows metal residue at its bottom edge when it was ...

Hi Tim_be

It may well be but for some reasons I have a doubt. In the Prussian army, those colours would be for an husaren regiment. The only difference is the absence of piping on the crown...😬

Visor cap identification

Dear All Here is a recent acquisition about which I do not know much. Based on my rough research, that would be a cap for a NCO of the Waldeck & Reuss state, one of the smallest state of the old Reich. The piping around the middle band would suggest a man of a Hussard or Ulhan regiment, but no certa...

Re: Saxon cockade question

Thank you to All for your responses.

The helmet is one of those typical composite helmets manufactured by the State of Saxony and the star has dented the shell in a consistent way. I am therefore quite certain it is a Saxon helmet.

I will check on the cockades material.

French dragon officer helmet and képi

Dear All

A small grouping for a French dragon officer From 1910 into the first month of WWI.

That type of helmet was used on what were still the grand charges of the French cavalry against the invading German army until it was consider entirely inadequate, towards the end of 1914.

Query re. Army Corps BA X and IR73

Dear All I have been seeking clarification on some markings namely Army Corps BAX and its components. If my understanding is correct, IR73 of Hannover was incorporated into that BAX. Is that correct? My question arises in connection with that helmet spotted on Ebay.fr https://www.ebay.fr/itm/1138371...
