Awesome - love that 5th Dragoon Guards helmet.

My Great Grandfather was in the Fifth Dragoon Guards and took part in one of the last cavalry charges of the Boer war at the Battle of Elandslaagte.

My Prussian Shako

Thanks to James for selling this to me. I am very happy with my first Shako. The pictures speak for themselves. If anyone can help me decipher the stamps inside that would be appreciated. I am pretty sure there is 1916 and a size 54 but the main stamp between those I don't understand. Looks like som...

Thanks to more internet research I now know that these would be too big for an M15 pickelhaube. Live and learn! Good luck selling them - very good repros that's for sure.

Interesting discussion.

As an ex military officer I can just see the German Hauptfeldwebel chewing out some soldier for having both the Fedlzeichen and the state kokarde on his shako. Probably so he would look good for his girlfriend.....

Shakos and Cockades

As an about to be new owner of a Prussian M15 Shako I am curious as to why they only have the national cockade on them and no state cockade on the other side? Is it because they often have those field badges attached on top?

Thanks.

Your work is amazing Brian. I know how good it feels to bring stuff back to life and seeing beyond the current condition. I have a 1938 Mills Jukebox that was in rough shape when I got it. Veneer ruined, covered in crappy layers of awful paint and a few mechanical issues. At first glance my wife sai...

Now that is the coolest idea ever. Wish I could. I am getting a German postcard that shows the monument to Infanterie-Regiment "von Goeben" (2. Rheinisches) Nr. 28, which is the Regiment of the soldier who owned one of my pickelhaubes.

Haven't picked this up yet and pictures aren't the greatest. Getting it next Saturday. Would appreciate opinions on it.
