Your first vehicle pic reminds me of a WW2 Bren Gun carrier Ron. Similar in size (a bit smaller, I think), but the UE doesn't have the steering wheel to 'bow' the tracks for wide radius turns, just the laterals. Could this be an Uhlan version of a 'Koffer helm'? I would imagine it could be packed pretty easily with the helmet over the inverted mortar board. Nice helmet in any case! :)

I've done some brazing, but always on steel. I think it might melt a thin brass plate. That's a good thought Tony. It just looks odd to me, but displays well by itself.

Aicusv, That's right. I picked up officer front plates for $20 and I'd imagine others were even less. Hey John, It's in the case now, the glass of which is held in place by screwed on molding (too expensive to do sliding glass). It looks to be about 4 inches in diameter. It was on an M98 type helmet...

Thanks all. I finished cleaning it. Removed dust and tried to get as much metal polish residue off as possible without damaging what little fire gilding was left. It's now on the shelf with its mates. Took the photo just prior to re-installing the plexiglass (actually acrylic sheet) and shelf above ...

Actually, for now I've stored my wants list away. They're getting too expensive for me to justify spending the money... however, I keep looking just in case.
