I'll add some additional information about the front plate: As mentioned, he acquired it a few years later from the same person he had purchased the helmet from when it had no front plate on it, circa late 1970's. He paid a whopping $5.00 for the eagle and the Braunschweig device, circa late 1970's....

The family that owns it is from Wisconsin. They came to the ?2nd Des Moines Antiques Roadshow to get it appraised. An old collector friend, Leroy Kile from Wisconsin told me he tried to buy it several times from the family over the years, but they didn't want to sell it.
