Yes of course, Tony, it's like a kit helmet and exactly the same process of manufacturing as Chas' tschapka.

yes, guy's it is a Line eagle. Been trying to replace it with other line eagles, but the curvature does not match so far. Imprint on helmet does match the eagle. James, what is the distance betwen the holes? Will a small Ulanen pattern eagle Wappen fit? If the distance is 6,5cm, it's surely a small...

Hi Francis, As I know : 1/ This sort of Tschapkas (czapki) are not very rare in comparison with the full metal models for example 2/ They seem to have been in service since the year 1914 3/ I think that they are issued models and it would be intresting to search who is (or are) the maker(s). Re: Square tongues

Question: Last but one photo: what is the thick piece of pierced leather in the "hole"? Rgds, Francis It's the system to fix the leather lace which pass over the top of the mortar board and ends up with à little piece of wood so as to fix the "Fangschnur". http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/3424/pick...

Thank you Maxime, I did not know about the cord being used on the M15 instead of cane, which makes sense. I really think that it was cane as it seems to be the same as was used for woven cane of chairs from that era and later. I believe, that they also used very thin strips of cane for the officer ...

Yes Maxime, the tschapka is very unique in its construction. The liner is of course totally different than the average haube with the squared fingers with metal eylets, and the thin strips of bamboo or cane put inside the edge of the liner where it is stitched to the edge of the shell. Yes, Brian, ...

Division or Brigade ?

Hi all friends and fellow collectors, I recently purchased this post card, showing a young Uhlan with Kameraden and dog, in the early times of the war at Passendale (Belgium).
