Leib Garde Hussars. Pass in Review! Eyes Right!!

Post by cptbob » Sun Jun 21, 2020 4:23 pm

This is an old AP photo. A description on the back states "First German Hussars in action at the recent maneuvers". I think a better description is the Leib-Garde on parade. You can see other guard officers watching from the side.

And in fact taken in Potsdam. Note the Colonnade at the extreme left of the photograph behind the Flügeladjutant. The remains of the colonnade are still to found on the site of the Lustgarten in Potsdam.

I would date this around the turn of the century. The guys are still wearing the “hanging” as opposed to the upright plume introduced in 1903. The Kaiser appears to be wearing a black lacquered cuirass, so somewhere in the range 1897 to 1903.
