SAXON PRESSED STEEL

Post by Amybellars » Fri Jun 14, 2019 8:26 am

This specimen has been painted black on the outside and funny thing is that it has a front visor trim and a rear spine. Considering pressed steel as being sturdy enough, why would there still be a need to put on the front visor trim and the rear spine.

Spike studs looks replacement and I have doubts over the brass spike as the neck looks a little too fat and rounded.

What do you experts think?

Here are some things I noticed, the rear spine doesn't fit and doesn't have the bottom tab. The liner is made of four pieces stitched together.

The new look without the front visor trim and the rear spine. Cannot imagine people with little knowledge of haubes and try to make one that is "technically correct" according to the look of a leather haube.

Hi Amybellars.

I have two like this and I will post one below. One is Bavarian and one is a Wurt. Both have a size stamp painted on the rear visors, and both have a corresponding number pressed into the steel inside the crown by the vent holes.

The only one I have here locally is the Bavarian one, so I will post pics of it to help your comparison research.

In the photos below, the size on the rear visor is painted "58" and the number pressed into the crown is "8".
