mitre helmet ID

was wondering if anyone can identify this mitre helmet. This helmet was sold back in the 80's . It was on display at the RED LION INN in Springfield, Ill. which opened 1956 and closed in the 70's. The owners had traveled to Europe and bought antique paraphernalia to decorate the Inn. I did not own the helmet but sold/traded it for a friend to a father/son just S of Indianapolis. Later I was told it was a important helmet & possibly a General's Mitre - again, just wondering if anyone can confirm this or is it something different ? The photos I've listed are from old photographs I took of the helmet to send to the later owners back in the 80's - NO internet/email then. thanks
