Again jawdropping, superb photograph's!!!!!Chapter on the Prussian Generals-subchapter: Generals in the uniform of a Jäger Regiment zu Pferde: Kaiser Wilhelm II helmet. What can I say...One pic shows the detail of the special elastic band on the chinstrap. Seen on many of the Kaiser's helmets.
from J-L Larcade: Volume II; Chapter 11.
Another distinctive feature on several helmets:
The endpiece of the chinscales is not the normal-leather pattern, with buckle and strap. It is an elastic band attached to the right chinscales half, by means of an adjustable, sliding buckle to adjust the length. The end of this elastic strap is equipped with a small, pierced scale (oval cut-out) that is hooked on the small metal knob on the last (fixed) scale of the other (left) chinscale half. This system, which enables the opening and closing of the chinscales, is unique. The Kaiser -with his crippled left arm-could now easily open and close the chinscales himself.
