Makers marking information?

I have what I suspect is an incomplete manners mark on a leather strap ( 08/15 Sling) the marking reads

E. de la Croix
Berlin
1918

Can anyone confirm the makers name?
I know someone had a list of makers markings a while back.
Regards

It sure is in Colonel J's list Sandy.
Here the link to that list, @MG34NZ :

Regards, Coert.

Emile de la Croix is in the Makerslist of Col. J.
"E. de la Croix Nachf. Berlin", i.e. Emile de la Croix Nachfolger, the successors of Emile de la Croix; not sure when the succession happened, but at least before 1907 (based on observed markings).

Regards,
Lars

Beautiful, rare, sling! If you ever decide to part with it, my naked 08/15 could use it.

Thanks Steve, yes definitely a lucky find and a welcome addition to my collection. It now adorns my own 08/15.

Great gun, great display! Have you fired it? What make and year is the gun? Do you have a drum? Have you fired it?

Congratulations on your sling, a lucky find indeed! Excellent display as well…there are many years of hunting treasures shown there. 👍

No drum I’m afraid, I would definitely like one. The gun is 1917, this one has a mismatched top cover so I’m not 100%} sure of the maker (cover is Spandau).
The gun was frozen with rust when I obtained it and after working to strip it down, based on condition I don’t believe that it has been fired since it was captured by the NZ division in WW1.
We can own MG’s in working condition but we have no provision to fire them under our laws. Let’s not start a firearms law debate though, at least for now they are retained and preserved.
I would love to fire an 08 or 08/15, I may need to visit the US to achieve this bucket list wish though.

The fact that this sling survived 100+ years is quite unbelievable. May I ask did you find it in NZ or did it come from Europe? It is something you would expect to only see in a Great War British Museum display.

A fellow collector recently stumbled upon it in Canada of all places, I was fortunate to be able to obtain it from him.

Thanks for all the interest in this item, here are some more images for you showing details of construction, materials etc. you can see some traces of field grey paint on the slider.
