    Any thoughts on this one?

Hello and thank you both for your thoughts. The helmet plate seems to fit well, do you think some aspects of the helmet are original and other bits have been added to replace missing parts?

    Any thoughts on this one?

Just saw this one on UK ebay. What do we think, I have only ever had standard O/R's one's in hand so have no experience of this type of helmet. Seems odd to me that the chine scales are of a different colour to the rest of the helmet...

    Tschapka feldzeichen

Did German units often put whitener on their field badges etc? If not, would it be worth gently cleaning the whitening off of the feldzeichen? The compound is very dry and seems to fall away without too much trouble. Regards, Alba

Hello gentlemen, Thank you all for taking the time to have a look at my post and then finding time to answer. A special thanks to James for photographing and sharing photo's of his examples. My friend will be very please to know his is original. I have enjoyed learning more...

    Tschapka feldzeichen

Hello Lars, Thank you for your thoughts. I hope both our Field Badges are original! I know nothing about them and have only just started reading about them on this forum. This Feldzeichen is from a 1909 dated Bavarian Ulan helmet that belongs to a friend. Many thanks...

    Tschapka feldzeichen

Hello, Here are a couple of photographs of the feldzeichen from the tschapka which was the subject of a previous post. Hopefully you will see that the centre colour has been stitched to the surrounding white boss of the field badge. I have some other photographs of it, if it helps. Failing...

    Bayer Tschapka, 1st Ulan Regtement

Good news regarding the Field Badge, it does have stitching between the centre and surrounding cloth. It is not too clear, but is very visible under an eye glass. I will try and get some photographs. I think they are not very clear because the white part has been whitened at some point. This...

    Uberzug any good?

Hello, I have never tried any sort of light test on it. I will look into this and see what happens. The cover is still at my father's house, so it maybe sometime before I get a chance to try. I bought the helmet and cover in 1992, I found it in my records book of purchases. I take...

    Uberzug any good?

Hi Brian, Thanks for your thoughts. Good to know it's not a clanger! When I bought the Haube I was spending all my time looking at the mounts and liner etc. to make sure they were original and in fairly good condition. The cover was just a wee bounce, I don't think I paid it that much...

Hello, Thanks for your thoughts. I am popping over to see my friend at the weekend so I will ask him if it OK to take some more photo's of the Feldzeichen. I never really paid that much attention to that part. Thank you very much for the information regarding how the liner is attached to a...

Oh, I don't think I would go as far as it being a parts helmet. There is no sign of the helmet plate having been replaced, and there is no marks of a different plate having been on it. The plate is also the correct colour and pattern for a pre war made 1st Ulan Regiment helmet. It would need to...

    Uberzug any good?

That is good news. I was not sure it was a good one. I have not seen that type of hook on any of the covers on the forum and that made me wonder. It came with the 1915 pattern, 1916 dated, Prussian Pickelhaube it is seen pictured on, and did come from a good source. It is good to hear that it is...

Hello WW1 collector, That's very interesting about the liner. Have you seen many pre-war Bavarian Ulan Helmets? I am very interested to know what type of liner they had. On this post - http://www.pickelhaubes.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4303"...

Hello Brian, Thank you for taking the time to look at this helmet, I am glad you can see no major problems with it. In fact I have seen a similar Bavarian one on this forum with what looks like a very similar liner. This other Tschapka aslo dated from a pre war period. I am now...
