Some Kaiserliche Marine Asiatic Portraits

A few images from my collection with an association with Asia. The first one, a picture post card, shows men of Seebattlion III. Given the props used, probably taken by a Japanese photographer operating in Tsingtao, where this card was postmarked in1910. The second, a cabinet card size portrait of a Deck Officer, was taken by the photography studio of A. Fong of Hong Kong. Fong, himself was considered one of the pioneers of Chinese Photography and his studio was very popular with sailors of the Royal Navy. But was much less patronized by German and American sailors. I am believe I am seeing a China medal and a Jubilee medal on his coat. Next, another cabinet card chest up officers portrait was taken by Matsuo of Nagasaki, Japan. Nagasaki was a common port visit for the great powers prior to WWI. Lastly, another picture post card, this one showing a sailor in Hong Kong riding a rickshaw. Such rickshaw riding themed photos were popular with American and European soldiers and sailors.
