Wurttemberg M15

Hello all,

My most recent acquisition is a M15 in rather rough shape, it had some mysterious stuff crusted on the inside and most metal pieces are absolutely rusted however I have most pieces I just have to resew the visors and find a spike base and wappen. The wappen is going to be a trick although I have spotted a pioneer one. I am particularly interested in this one because of the depot repair or as my friend who spotted this one for me calls the "Frankenstein stitches" I'll update with more pictures as I make progress so far getting the leather cleaned up has been a challenge on its own.

Thank you,
Will

Here are some better photos, the next step will be finding new fittings. What does everyone feel would be more a appropriate route, matching the new fittings with the chinstrap lugs or the plate itself?20210925_010232.jpg20210925_010247.jpg20210925_010340.jpg

Hi,
Are the grommets and the lugs made of steel, and the plate made of tombak? (not so easy to see) In that case it would be more correct to have all the fitting in steel, but with a tombak plate it would look better with aluminiumbronze fittings.
Regards,
Lars

The plate I believe is steel like the lugs just produced by a different maker or a different year than the other fittings which would explain the lighter grey paint or whats left of it i should say and wore differently over time.

In that case I wouldn’t worry too much, nice if it could be similar to the plate as it is the most visible, but it will be very hard to find exactly the same shade of gray ;)

Color matching the parts is relatively easy to do once you have gathered them up.
If it is a small helmet the parts will be easy to source.
If it is large, finding parts will be a challenge to find.
But you probably know this already.
I like the stitching as well !

It is a smaller helmet as all of the visor trim that I have is actually too small for the helmet, and I'm reasonably certain that the trim that was on the helmet originally can't be salvaged
