This is an amazing film record from a Chicago based news organization that visited Germany shortly after the start of the war in August 1914. Great real action pictures of uniforms, helmets and personages of the early war. Starting at 1hour and 15 minutes their are films of eastern front soldiers wearing ersatz pickelaube and shako helmets. It is fun to watch.

Saw this earlier today, actually had a quiet day for a change so spent a lot of time in front of TV. I also watched the Peter Jackson collection on a big TV, yes I am jealous. He also has a number of WW1 trucks as well.


Recently more speed and contrast corrected videos have appeared from Das Bundesarchiv, they are no way as clear as the video above, but they very real and not faked after the event. The second movie of on the Somme starts in a pristine forest, Allied artillery starts shelling German soldiers are running between cover, crossing a river. the trees gradually get thinner......

Thank you, Randy, this is great! The speed correction and restauration make it more realistic that anything else from that time I have seen before.
