New member here been collecting quite awhile. A couple years ago i bought a u.s grouping from a woman here local to me. Most of the stuff was u.s gear uniforms etc. There was this stalhelm in the group. I am wondering what others think of this paint, seems to be multiple layers and colors. White, blue, couple different greens. Looks pretty rough to me and like its been on there forever. Any thoughts on this paints originality

I would be wrong, but this helmet has been repainted and the camouflage color is not coeval and original. I also have doubts about the leather flaps of the liner, which appear to be reproductions. Sorry for the frankness but it's not a pristine helmet.

Dear Rocky, don't take it badly, but the heavy corrosion of the metal under the paint confirms that the helmet has been refurbished.
Zeb.

I unearthed the item in 2019.It had been lying in the ground for 74 years.Note how the paint and decal are preserved.Where the paint is preserved there are no rust bubbles.

No biggie. I kinda figured it had been painted post war. Neat display. I usually find alot of militaria so this was some random pickup

Sadly the exterior camo paint job was done in the modern era, long after WW1 ended. One of the colors appears to be "John Deere Green" farm machinery color paint.

The liner looks to be a copy/modern reproduction which someone artificially aged.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
