Hello,

It's been a long time since I've posted any new finds, and I also have not been very active here for a while as well.

This Helbing & Sackewitz maker marked size 56 JzP came with a set of original large size kokardes, but no chinstrap. I was surprised that the kokardes didn't get lost, since the chinstrap was missing when I acquired the helmet from a family.

I'm wondering if this was a Liberty Bond helmet, since it has the incorrect enlisted pattern M15 Kurassier spike on it. We know that the Liberty Loan helmet spikes were some times mis-matched on helmets when they were unpacked and re-assembled after being shipped over to the U.S. for distribution by the government.

The bluing is super nice on this helmet. I'm not sure if I'll end up keeping it for my collection, or if I'll sell it.

The last photos I have posted show the helmet with a modern repro chinstrap on it, for display purposes and to keep the kokardes in place.

I remember seeing a few wartime Kurassier enlisted helmets over the years that have an incorrect JzP enlisted spike. If anyone here has such a helmet with a JzP spike on it, I'd be willing to trade the spike on this helmet for your JzP spike.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Nice, nice find, and I know the Cuirassier spike is not correct, but it is a rare spike top!!

Way to go Alan!
