Just got in this interesting Prussian Artillerie M1915 Ersatz Felt Pickelhaube with removable ball.

This helmet was captured by Hubert Macdonald Lake, who was a driver with the Royal Canadian Artillery and a member of the CEF, this was one of his war trophies when his estate was sold.

It has two small period slits behind the plate.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Could this had been done for ventilation?

another plate at one time ?
But who cares , it is a great helmet
and you know the history and name of the
soldier that brought it back
write down the history and place
the note under the helmet
I have a pre war artillery that was brought back by a soldier who was I D ' ed

Nice helmet! In regard to ventilation, my first Pickelhaube was a m15 Prussian. Someone had drilled 30 or 40 small .06” diameter holes closely spaced in the area behind the front plate where they were not seen.
