This is an Officer's version of the M54 Kurassier Pallasch. It was made by Damaschke. The blade is massive, about 37.75 inches long (about 96 cm) which would suggest it was made before 1896 when the Kurassier Pallasch blades were shortened. The really interesting thing is the Pommel Nut, which has the Coat of Arms of the Salm Family in it. Males of this family held the Hereditary title "Prinz zu Salm". Surfing the web, I've been able to find a couple members of this family who were Kurassiers during the period 1880-1896.

1. Eduard Max Vollrath Friedrich Prinz zu Salm-Horstmar - commanded both the 4K and GKR regiments
2. Emanuel Prince zu Salm - was authorized to wear GdC uniform, but not an active member. KIA in WW1

If anyone has the Ranglists, I'd appreciate discovering any other members of this noble family who served in a Kurassier unit during period 1880-1896

A heck of a item!
In many ways, but the combo of the heraldic (and of course the grade of nobility!!!) and the militaria makes it even more special to me.
I like to collect everything holding a familly crest on it. Going from pots and pan's over buttons and so on...
Only got a French sword with a crest.
