First purchase question

Hi! I am new to this Forum and would like to purchase my first Pickelhaube. I have never seen or found the Rosette (2.picture) on any other Pickelhaube. I am not sure if this Pickelhaube is real or a reproduction.1000038815.jpg

Hi Alisson, welcome to the forum. There is a lot of good members here; I learn a lot each time I log on.

The helmet looks good to me, but I have not seen the pins for the front trim being decorated like that. They are supposed to be plain. If they are any bit different tones of metal, then I would imagine it was a person who wanted to jazz the helmet up somewhat.

Maybe someone has a different assessment of that.

The two brass round devices on the left and right side of the brass front visor edge trim piece are rank denotation devices from a shoulder board for beamte or civil service personnel. And the rear visor has brass rounded dome pins as well, at least from what I see in your 2nd from the left photo you posted. Someone played around with this helmet and doctored it up a bit, unfortunately, with these pins.

The right and left side of the brass metal trim on the front visor should have domed split brads.

It looks like rear of the round spike base has had s pin replaced as well. The angle of your photographs does not show the top back area of the helmet to see what the pin looks like on the top of the rear spike base area.

Best Wishes,

Alan

I agree with Alan. This helmet has been repaired a few times. The visor studs aren't original, and the neck guard studs are a makeshift fix because the neck guard is unstitched. There's also a repair on the chin strap. The issue with the studs can easily be fixed.
Here's how it should be changed.

My advice would be for you to pass on this helmet and buy one that is complete with no problems. In my view a new collector should avoid helmet “problems “ until you are more experienced and knowledgeable. Use this site and another called The Kaiser’s Bunker to learn more about these helmets. Keep looking though and post any potential buys here so we can help you. We also have a for sale section here so check that out as well. Welcome to the forum.

agree with the others contributors....pass your way. Wait for a perfect one. A common prussian helmet is not rare.
