Dear fellow collectors,

Looking for a regulation M/1887 helmet from the Prussian Line Infantry. Will pay above market rate!

Best regards
Frank

Hello Franck, The M87s are very rare, as most were modified into M91s with a side post. All the best.

I'll take this opportunity to highlight the specific features:
---no brass visor trim, but a leather rim.

--no beading at the tip, but still a ferrule to seal the vents.

--chinstrap with hooks and a peephole for quick interchangeability (leather strap chinstrap and scale chinstrap).

--shell still sewn under the rear spine.

Hello Clovis,
Yes, I’m familiar with those typical design features. You actually showed us this wonderful helmet here in our community back in 2023. I was hoping that you—or perhaps another gentleman—might take pity on me and offer me one!:)
Thanks again for showing it to us!
Hope dies last!!!

Best regards
Frank

Hello Frank,
Yes, sorry, but I don't have a spare M87.
My second one is a 109 from the mobilization, which was originally an M95, whose B.A. XIV replaced the M91 post-side chinstrap with an M87 hook-type one.109RJR jug M87.JPG109RJR fixation jugulaire M87.JPG
The old brand of the M91 side post is clearly visible.109RJR jug M87 à crochet.JPG
This helmet was a Baden 109 LGR model since 1895, because it has a spike with five ventilation holes and no Perlring, and a ventilation flap on the top of the rear spine. It had side-posts, which were exchanged for M87 hooks in 1914, and its plate has eyelets and leather corners.

In 1914, this old helmet was brought back into service, and for reasons of ersatz and urgency, its old M87 chinstrap was fitted to equip a Reserve Grenadier of this regiment. (The first two battalions of the 109th Infantry Regiment retained the "Grenadier" designation, but not the third, designated "Fusilier." This is why the marking is specific to this regiment: IGBRR109 for 1st Grenadier-Reserve Battalion-Regiment 109.)

109RJR bibi IGBRJR1914.JPG I am showing this helmet again here because of its M87 chinstrap, the mechanism of which I was able to describe in detail.😇

All my best wishes for good luck, Frank. If I happen to see one of them, I'll be thinking of you.;)

Yeah, you three great guys, I’ve been collecting for 40 years too! I was just talking to a well-known German dealer about this last week. He told me, “My goodness, I had two of those models years ago. I had a hard time getting rid of them because nobody wanted them back then.” I’ve had every Kube catalog since 1983. Here, too, I noticed that those purebred Prussian M/87s are few and far between. I think I’ve only found two. Back in the 1990s. All the others there were modified models and from Baden.
But as J.LeBrasseur already says, the hunt out there continues! :)

Have a great rest of the week, guys

Frank

Hi Frank, hang in there 😀 one will come along. I have just the one....without wanting to be a tease here are some pictures for the thread. Apologies not ready to part with it just yet.
It came from Weitze a few years back now...nice date and unit stamps on it and minty. Came with a national cockade so I have left it as is. Cheers Tony

Hello Tony,
Superb M87!!!
The M87 roundel in the colors of the Reich does not worry me. On the contrary, it is a sign that this helmet, reformed for 25 years, was brought out of its storage in 1914 to equip a Landsturm, a Landwehr or a Reservist.
