Encouraged by James, I gathered my family. I have the advantage of living not far from the Bois des Caures, where the first day of the attack on Verdun took place.
Not forgetting my Shako from the Friedberg Landsturm Battalion.
Sorry I can't show you a felt helmet... but I know Philippe Argonne can do it...
What an excellent collection @CLOVIS 57 , I have only 1 Hessen helmet in my collection, an M15, just like the one you have, on the top row, seen from the right, it is like the second one there, on that row. Cross shaped base, but with a Prussian spike on it.
I have been looking for ages to find the correct Hessian M15 spike for it, but they are very, very rare.
I've already had the opportunity to discuss some helmets in a dedicated post. The 'Prussian' types with a round-based spike and Teller marking are all marked RBAXVIII and/or a Hessian regiment, and the eyelets are directly drilled for the lion.
James,
As always you have an amazing collection and aray of helets that I truly love to see. Clovis, yours is quite amazing too. Thanks for the wonderful pictures.
Best regards,
John
