What do I have here. Closest match seems to be a Mecklenburg 1860?

I picked this up at an antique shop yesterday hoping it's a pickelhaube but I can't find anything like it. Obviously it's missing the cockades, straps and spike if it ever had one. Crest seems to be Mecklenburg which I understand is fairly rare. The four hole locations seem to line up with the 1860 model. Interior looks completely different from anything I can find. Seller didn't know what it is either. It was $15 so I figured I'd take a chance on it. I have never had one of these before or seen one in person so this is totally new for me. Maybe a fire helmet of some sort?

Yes a vulcan fiber fireman helmet. The fire officer helmets as in this case, often have trim on the rear visor. Of interest...the sweatband liner has aeration holes in the "forehead" area. You do not find this on most officer pickelhauben.

Interesting piece of headgear, especially with the M15 type coating on the metal parts of the headgear combined with the traditional green and red visors for officer’s pickelhaube. Thank you for posting.
Best regards,

This fireman helmet wappen is a bit different from the typical Mecklenburg-Schwerin wappen we would see on the regular military infantry helmet. This wappen device has the same assorted emblems on it as for Mecklenburg-Schwerin, but the shape of the wappen device placed on the starburst has been changed for fireman use when it was designed and manufactured.

It would be interesting to discover if this is the emblem used on all fireman helmets from Mecklenburg-Schwerin, or if it is for a specific town or municipality within Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

It's the first time I have seen one of these fireman helmets from Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Thanks to new member Aragorn243 for posting it here. And congratulations on finding it for $15.

Best Wishes,

Alan

So what would this need to be complete?

Is it possible to restore it?

Would it be cost effective to restore it?

I'm guessing it never had a spike at this point but straps and cockades look like they were once part of it.
