Can anyone identify my great-grandfather’s uniform and cap badge? Germany, WWI era

Hello everyone,

I am researching my family history and would really appreciate your help.

This is my great-grandfather:

Wilhelm Carl Peinemann Schloemer

Family tradition says he was born in or near Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany. He later emigrated to Mexico, married in Aguascalientes, became a Mexican citizen, and renounced his German citizenship.

We believe this photograph was taken around the time of World War I.

I am especially trying to identify:

  • the cap badge
  • the uniform
  • whether this belonged to the military, a cadet academy, railways, or another organization.

Any information, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

It’s not a military uniform. Is there any indication of who the photographer was or where it was taken (they frequently had that printed on the cardboard they mounted the photo on)? Perhaps some type of civil service?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I don’t know who the photographer was or in which city in Germany the photo was taken. My great-grandfather was from Goslar, near Peine, according to my family.

The original photograph was lost many years ago, and this digital copy is the only version that has survived. Unfortunately, there are no markings, stamps, or photographer information on it anymore.

I’m trying to reconstruct my family history, so any clues about the cap badge, uniform, or possible civil service organization would be greatly appreciated.
