Baden helmet with unique spike securing method

Well done, Amy. This grandpa is truly handsome, and you don't see many like it.
The particular rounded metal shinscaled is unique to the Grand Duchy of Baden.
I've never seen a spike attachment like that.
 
Very cool these huge old pickelhauben. I've never seen one from Baden.
How many of these old types have you managed to find until now?
 
Stunning piece, I love it! May I ask where did you find such a rare piece? I see the occasional 1843 Prussian helmet come up every so often, but a Baden model, wow!

Very nice Amy. I have one or two of those spike attachments in the old beasts like that in my collection if I recall. My compliments on another nice find!
 
Thank you guys. I am not worried with the spike attachment method, just thought of sharing with everyone the way the spike is being secured. We always learn from each other.

Grabenmaxx, I have about 18 grandpa haubes in my collection as at this morning.

Pontiac, my friend who is an old collector will at times get helmets through his connections and he will give me the first right of refusal which I am very appreciative of.

John, I will take pics of the chinscales attachment and lugs attachment when I can , this week. I promise.

Very impressive! Thank you Amy! At the same time that the first Schleswig - Holstein War broke out with confederated German states supporting independence from Denmark, revolutionaries within the Grand Duchy of Baden (including Friedrich Engels - formerly a Prussian guard artilleryman by the way) attempted to establish a republic which wasn't quite as enthusiastically received by the other German states. The Prussian army suppressed the Baden Revolution in 1849 and the Baden army was reorganized on the Prussian model with distinctly Prussian-style uniforms which is reflected in the adoption of this helmet.

Painting of the Baden revolutionary army 1848-1849 on campaign and a print illustrating the new uniform and helmet after the army was reorganized on the Prussian model. The original shako griffin plate carried over before being replaced by what I regard to be the most impressive German heraldic plate ever produced and displayed on Amy's helmet.
