    Jagers in WW1

GEW98, I have a photo of a small German unit armed with LP08s and carrying TM08s at the waist. They are posing with some captured French soldiers. A friend in Europe has a somewhat similar photo of a different group. I have fired thousands of rounds through LP08's using the snails and have...

    New scroll helmet picture

Joe, I knew that John Kerry claimed to be a hero of the Viet Nam conflict but didn't realize that he fought for the Germans in the Balkans. This photograph is proof of the latter.

    Baden 111 IR Mannschaft Haube

As a note on antique leather care I would like to mention a product I use on Imperial German leather goods. It's a British product I orginally found at a Jaguar dealer's parts shop. Hide Food is the trade name and it can be purchased through the internet. Unlike Pecards and other such leather...

    Garde Fusilier Regiment, 12th Company

The unit marking on your GEW88 indicates weapon number 240 of the 12th company of the Guard Fusilier Reserve Regiment. I believe, but can not now confirm, that it was part of the 1st Guard Reserve Brigade in the 1st Guard Reserve Division.

    Wild Pic

Cool photo. Interesting that the machine gun crews are wearing picks without the pick and the guys who may be cadre are wearing picks with the pick. I'd bet that the french helmets are explained by a shortage of M1916 stahlhelm at the time of this training.

    Mystery Regimental Marking

George, Is the marking as you have shown it with "OP" in upper case letters? 1920's police markings for Oeppeln were shown as "Op" and I would think that Ost Preussen would be "O.P.". Can we see photos?

    Pigeon thumb lift

Nice Krug Joe. I have one just like it dated 1892 to the first squadron of the sixth uhlans. What is the unit associated with yours?

    German bugle 1914 - JR 78

Period photos that I have indicate that buglers, as well as marching drummers, were armed with pistols. Their wearing of swallow nests seems to be inconsistent but did continue well into the war. I would be happy to share some photos if I could email them to a member for posting.

The story of the Killer Beast from India

Chas, I do recall the monkey man thing, really something but then consider Saskwatch, Nessie and all in the West. Here's a link to some relatively recent leopard news... http://www.hindu.com/mag/2005/02/06/stories/2005020600010100.htm India is where we have decided to set up all our computer...
