Baden Leibgrenadier helmet on ebay France

Does look like the wappen loops have been moved and there does seem to be a vague line eagle shadow. What about the side posts? are they grey metal? shouldnt they be silver also? or is it my aging eyes letting me down? Seems odd to me that all the other silver is nice and shiny, shiny, bright...

    Love of hopeless causes?

Never could resist a puppy on a train track :) still a lot of work to go before its finished. Was looking at Kaisers bunker, and spotted a similar helmet. Could this actually be an 1860 officer pattern after all? has many of the same features it seems.

1915 Model Stick Grenade with 7 second fuse

I can see that, I hadnt even thought about a booby trap for abandoned positions. Still not sure about using it to detonate a larger charge, but that bullet head bouncing off the walls of a dugout could do a lot of damage. Off to google ww1 german booby traps!!

1915 Model Stick Grenade with 7 second fuse

Its an easy mistake Keith, it does look like a lebel round, or atleast the top end of one. Turk, why would they need to cause a cascade event with a bullet? It would be so much easier to just tie the fuse lines to a trip wire than line them up. Anyway Im pretty sure it wouldnt go bang if you...

1915 Model Stick Grenade with 7 second fuse

Its very similar to a lebel, but for 2 reasons its different. 1. Its steel 2. It has an extra shoulder. Heres a comparison pic, very similar in size and for a while I thought it was a lebel bullet head in there. Sadly I cant remove the bullet and Im not going to try, but from examining the...

    Casque à pointe tole

Im going to pass on this one. I was looking at the one on tony`s site earlier and saw his comment on the lines. Was still thinking maybe it was an original that had been filled and repainted, but if the lines are also meant to be visible on the inside and with those slots, its not for me.

1915 Model Stick Grenade with 7 second fuse

Hi Gus Its a strange one :? You dont go with the mine theory then? I would love to find some info on this. Is there anybody else out there that can help. At the moment I feel like ](*,) Andy

    Casque à pointe tole

Ok here is my problem. As I said the only ref. I have are the helmets in my own collection. I have another felt ersatz with the same slots, also symmetrical. To me the slots on this helmet do not look like they were punched out by any factory, they look at the very least to have been...

1915 Model Stick Grenade with 7 second fuse

Hi Gus No its an m17 grenade. Here is a pic, not great I know but im still working on my photography. As you can see, very much a relic, but what is it. It was found without a handle, and without the normal fuse handle rusted to the threads. The threads are so clean I can screw a handle...

    Greetings from Kuwait!

Thought I would join in extending the warm welcome I was given with my first post. Welcome!

    Casque à pointe tole

Yep, there must be someone out there that can give a definitive answer. For my part, I really dont like those slots though as I say I have nothing to ref. with. The more I look at it the more they look either wrong or adapted. Still not sure on that paint either. If its a good one I would really...

1915 Model Stick Grenade with 7 second fuse

Very nice, especially the paper label :thumb up: I have a question along the lines of this topic. Recently I found in an Austrian dugout, a 1917 can, without the handle. Not an uncommon find. However this can is different. It has what appears to be the top half of a bullet cartridge attached...

    ebay helmet

At least one of the side posts has been disturbed at some point, always makes me wary..and the front visor trim also looks suspect..just my thoughts.

    Casque à pointe tole

Yep the helmet would be correct for IR75. I have a couple of questions though. I dont have a steel ersatz haube in my collection, though I keep trying , so I have nothing to compare it to. I do have a 1915 JzP and 2 felt ersatz, which have slots, rather than round holes for mounting the wappen...

    bid boosting??

I was asking the same thing..it certainly seems to be a guard helmet and for those of us who dont mind spending a little time on cleaning up, its a very complete and apparently easy job, but thats a lot of money..why so much? This is why I was thinking the bidding was being pushed :-k

    bid boosting??

Yes I was looking at the hole spacing, thought it would have made a nice easy clean up. But check out the high bidder with 4 feedbacks.. only bidding activity this month is 8 bids all on the one item. I could be wrong but it looks like hes bidding it up. I hate this ebay policy of hiding bidders...

    bid boosting??

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270892124221?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Am I missing something here? can see its likely a guard/grenadier helmet possibly, but surely the bidding is being boosted here :???:

    The Leather Chin Strap

Sorry Keith..I missed that one..its big :) 60ft by 15ft..tbh its a floating static home..I have a full 2 rooms (and most of the other rooms) dedicated to my collection, the corridor is my work shop, where my lathe lives. I have a full sized dug out display in one room and a full size genuine ww1...

    whats this?

Yes your right. The L.G. stamp says its a police helmet, but that wappen just isnt right, atleast not for that helmet. The spike, the spine all wrong. Still not convinced its a fire helmet, but there is no way that any of the metal work was put on the helmet in 1883. Every helmet he has on ebay...
