A Badge or two for Otto ....

Tony, sorry I got the wrong end of the stick with your question. The first badge is 2 piece construction and does have a weep hole, but in this scan its not seen as it's under the pin just below the catch. Again the cased observers is the same but as you can see has the ray back finish. The...

A Badge or two for Otto ....

Yes Tony you are correct there are no weep holes no maker marks. The badge has a seperate attached Observer patch and I will show closer pictures tomorrow. But I would say that the quality is up to Junckers standards even though it doesn't show their mark.

    Just aquired....

Joe, Chas, I agree with you Chas, about what Brian is saying. This kokade does appear to be the same as the Riechs/Prussian style with the hash marks painted over blue. Boy oh Boy am I learning things here. This is all good stuff and helping me no end.

Chas, I've taken a couple of closer pictures of the kokade. It is a 3 piece construction and the metal is silver coloured and not painted. Here goes.

Hi Brian, Your reasoning for the elongated holes sounds right to me. I know how it is on a tight budget. In fact I have noticed another hole that is further up on the helmet and is in line with the cruciform front arm, but slightly lower. This hole is covered by the Wappen Here's a pic, look...

    Just aquired....

Joe, to be honest, I'm more than pleased and in fact astounded about the amount of interest this has created and the things I am learning already. As you said to me on GMIC forum, "many eyes are better". Joining this forum has opened my eyes to so many things already. For instance, I was only...

    Beautiful Items From Mohawk Arms

I don't know where you get that from Gustaf. All Auction houses in the UK charge a 10/15% buyers and sellers fee on the items that go through their hands. Thats how they make their money. But like you, it something that gets my back up and I would rather find the item I want through other means.

    This pickelhaube belongs to Max

The thing is have you contacted the seller, saying that he has used your picture. He is selling repros yet uses other peoples pictures of originals ... surely this can be reported and action taken by eBay.

Brian, before I bought the helmet I had several conversations with Remy. I asked about the chinscales and was told by him that they were replacement ones. I do not beleive these to be repros, but period scales that did not originally belong to this helmet.

A Badge or two for Otto ....

Now for a cased one .. this time an Observers Badge. Again Junckers marked with half moon and 800. Still showing it's original frosting. Reverse. And a shot of the Junckers printed mark inside the case.

A Badge or two for Otto ....

.... I thought you might like to see a couple of badges that I have in my collection. I think that you'll like them Otto. First, A Prussian Pilots Badge, Junckers marked with name and ONLY half moon and 800. Obverse. Reverse.

    Helme Makers

I like your suggestion for collecting pictures of makers marks Joe. I'm afraid I only have the one that I can add to the gallery at the moment. This is from my Prussian Foot Artillery helmet.

Chas, your making me dribble all over my keyboard with those pictures. Now gent's, as an aside question. Would the spikebase and spike be in German silver or silver washed on my helmet. I ask this because whatever happens I don't want to damage it by cleaning it the wrong way. I followed...

Reservist1, just to confirm, both kokardes on my helmet measure 49mm, am I right in believing that these ones are senior NCO's? This one was advertised as Schwere Reiter, so again my thoughts were for 1st regiment. Oh ...if only I could find a busch to go with it
