    "Take the Crimea...

R1, Yes I know about the sad passing of Eric, but I think Rick Lundstrom ( Rick Research on GMIC forum) has taken the task up of continuing Eric's work. We need people with the understanding and dedication to help us less able collectors to understand the past. It is a long and slow process to...

    "Take the Crimea...

Hey R1, I would appreciate you doing that for me. There is only one or two people that I know have that "further knowledge" on German awards in their possesion, and both of them are in the States. You are right about never having all the answers, as Imperial German awards are a law unto...

    "Take the Crimea...

Hi R1, I have all of Neal O'Connor's books except Vol 1; Bavaria and Vol 5; Oldenburg, (still looking out for a copy of the missing 2). As you say, they are the best English written reference books on German awards. But they don't tell all of the story!!! Chas, I'll get those photo's taken ...

Boxing Day Pix for Mr. Huxley

Agreed 100% Chas, Until proved right or wrong ... my mind is open. It does have that certain age look about it, but without deeper knowledge I would not like to say one way or the other. Also until held in hand and not through a picture, it's hard to tell. Have you asked one of the Guru's on EK...

    "Take the Crimea...

Chas, Here you go again .. getting me all excited and up tight. I do collect British awards, but at the moment I restrict myself to WWI groups awarded to the "Cameron Highlanders" and the "23rd Bat London Regiment". The reason for these two. My Grandfather was with the 23rd London and lost his...

Boxing Day Pix for Mr. Huxley

Hi R1, for some reason I can now see your pictures and very nice ones as well. Chas, Although I'm no expert on 1870 EK's, I like R1, am a little dubious about your "Wagner & S" piece. One reason for this is the quality in the Iron core, the "1870" does seem to be the same casting as others of...

Boxing Day Pix for Mr. Huxley

R1, For some unknown reason your pictures are not downloading for me?? ...Grrrr. Chas ..now YOU are getting me envious. The one thing that I have longed for and not been able to get my hands on is a true 1870 EK1. That is a beauty. Such a quality strike and the condition is A1. :thumbright:

Boxing Day Pix for Mr. Huxley

Chas, I agree with you, I to think that the correct award is the Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen. Although I suppose the Dienstauszeichnung could have been the officer cross and not the 12yr Mannschaften piece. I'm still not sure what the Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen was awarded for, I thought it was more...

Boxing Day Pix for Mr. Huxley

I think it's time we resurected this thread Chas :-k. So I'll post a bar that I managed to find since our last exchange. Your thoughts on it would be appreciated. In your opinion is that RAO correct, or do you think it should be the Prussian General award, which is on the same ribbon?

    Spikeless artillery

Good point Gus :-# got me there. I'll start that thread when I've eventually bought a scanner. Not a good idea to start a thread about paperwork when you can't provide good close-up pictures !!!! Having said that, I have started to collate a lot of the information about the Militarpass and...

    Spikeless artillery

Very true Gus ..... But they ain't Bavarian ..... They're Prussian and are therefore missing their Balls. :-P Now!!! back to the picture. Very interesting Joe. It seems strange that artillery guys would remove the top of the helmet. I thought this was mainly done when troops went on trench raids...

    Bavarian Military Merit Order

Hi Chip, The Bavarian MVO is amongst the nicest of the Imperial awards. Your one looks like a Jacob Lesser made piece and again one of the best on the scene. Once caught by the "Bavarian Blue" bug it's hard to stop ...... Here's it's bigger brother the BMVO 3 class in gold and in it's case.

    Landsturm Headgear

Hey Wyliecoyote, That's a nice Landsturm group photo you posted. It's interesting to see the guy kneeling with the shooting award is also wearing a "Kaiser Centenary" medal, any idea when the shot was taken? Here's a closer shot of the only pic that I have of a Landsturm guy wearing a...

    Survivor

Now I got it Gus, It's a bit like the Brit show " I'm a celebrity - get me out of here" or "Big Brother House". To me it's all a load of Fly on the wall crap. Give us more factual TV programes or comedy things. Life's too short to worry about bull shit :D
