    Hessian Leib Grenadier

Hi Tom, I agree the 1621 silvered ribbon should be under the spike base and held in place with the stud so where is the hole? Also there is no evidence that it ever was under the base. It looks very pristine to me. The rear spine should also be rolled with no strengthening along the edges...

Hessian 115 helmet anatomy, your opinion

Seeing all of these plates together I would bet that all are strikes from the same die. Jr92 would have stars from an earlier die state where the crack in the die has just started. The first example coming later after the die had lost a piece causing the defect above Gott. If you look close all...

    Baden Reserve Hauben

To remove the motto after the plate was made would be almost impossible as the plates are not that thick.... you would end up grinding right through the metal. Can you see the ghost image on the reverse of the helmet plate? The gold gilt looks to be untouched which would eliminate any collector...

    No Interest?

Hi Chas, This is a rare bird and to my eyes this looks good. My only comment would be a possiblity of some of the rays missing at the 6:00 position. I would ask to see a picture of the kokarden and of course the back of the helmet plate. Bill

    Off JR 115

This is quite a rare helmet and the final hour for bidding is drawing near so I will list my thoughts on this so that others may benefit. Draw your own conclusions and feel free to poke holes in my ideas. The owner has posted his fathers service record on E-bay: he began his service October...

    Companion Book

Just received notice that the companion book "The German Calvary" is now available from www.militaria.at. This is the second vol. in the series with "The German Army" the first in the series by Jurgen Kraus. This is a huge tome and well worth the money. Bill

    Rangliste

Glenn, He would be listed with IR 115. Bill
  14. Kaiser Bill

    Off JR 115

Nube, This is one case where either way would be correct on both counts. It was the Officer's personal preference to have the studs or stars for the spike base. The ribbon and the helmet plate had a matte finish with the edges and numerals raised and polished. In the pictures that I have the...

    Rangliste

Glenn, By this I assume that you mean Officier... correct? What about the smaller States, Dutchies, etc. Did they have their own rangliste or were they listed with the Prussian army? I am looking for a Lt.Karl Hahn.

    Rangliste

Does any of the members have access to the rangliste for the German army in WWI? Thank you. Bill
  17. Kaiser Bill

    Off JR 115

I asked for the usual look at the back of the helmet plate and guess what..... he refused on the grounds that it would spoil the helmet if he touched it :-P Bill

Could you help me with indentification of this star? JR115

Absolutely! But just for the sake of discussion what would a private purchase helmet of an Officer candidate for DR 23 or FAR 25 look like in 1915? Bill

Could you help me with indentification of this star? JR115

Reservist 1 The star sure looks like brass on my screen so if it is German silver that eliminates any problems. As per regulations the star should have swords but according to Stubbs due to the date of the regulation ( 29 March 1915) it is doubtful that the version was ever produced...
