    1860 Pattern Artillery Enlisted haube

Wow, a really nice helmet, Larry, looks like nobody has touched it for years. That's how I prefer them to look. I like the little souvenir next to it! There was a bit of shrapnel on a marble stand with a very similiar inscription on ebay UK a week or so back; I thought it would be cheap, but...

    Dreyse M1862

Thanks! No, it's the standard M1862 infantry rifle. I have this one and the M1841 infantry rifle. It would be nice to own the Jaegerbuchse too, but the Dreyse is an expensive firearm to collect. [Note to self: must get Photobucket or Imageshack account as Tinypic seems to have a short half-life!]

Is this a genuine JzP helmet?

That is very interesting, thanks for the excellent information!

Is this a genuine JzP helmet?

This is an area I know nothing about, so the answer may be obvious to some but it isn't to me. I thought this helmet looked more than slightly wacky, but it also has some appearance of age. Not something I'm interested in buying, but just curious - might it possibly be original and correct...

    And the verict is?

Ron Centenarfertigung means "made for the centenary". He actually says "outstanding centenary or later copy to original dimensions. A superb piece for any collection. Research shows that a comparable original costs around 8000 Euros". Exactly what centenary he is referring to, I don't know and...

    Dreyse M1862

Keith I wouldn't necessarily assume that. I have a feeling I've seen at least one other photo of a Dreyse with just the one date, but can't remember where. I don't know what the issuing process was, or whether there was more than one supply chain via which a rifle could have got into use, but...

    M16 with unusual two-colour camo

I think the tortoise camo is the name for the typical camo with black borders, which I suppose sort of resembles the shell of a tortoise, if you had quite a lively imagination and if the tortoise were painted green, brown and black. I don't know what the name for this one is, if indeed there is...

    M16 with unusual two-colour camo

This is my only M16. I thought the camo was interesting enough to post. It’s in olive green and yellowish khaki, with rounded fields and no borders. It’s not the crispest example you’ll ever see, and one side is distinctly more worn than the other, but at least it’s a real one. It’s marked Q66...

    Dreyse M1862

Next the rifle. (That nasty new-looking knock in the second-last picture was there when the dealer had it.) Apart from that I really like it; it’s nice and untouched. 1869 is the year of manufacture; 1870 is the year of issue:

    Dreyse M1862

Somewhat later than intended, here are some photos. First the M62 bayonet, which unlike the M41 should be browned, not bright. Excuse the cat hairs, which I didn’t notice when I was taking the photos:

    M16 Stalhelm with Camouflage

Having seen the interior close up, it'd be hard to disagree with Ron's point about the pitting. If the paint jobs are now that good, it seems it's become unsafe for any but the most expert to buy one of these on ebay. Very disconcerting.

    Belgium-Halen-August 1914 Battlefield museum

Another excellent museum I'd never otherwise get the chance to see. I like the layout and the display generally, very traditional and evocative. Many thanks for posting, much appreciated.

    Headgear-Koblenz-Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung

I can't really get over to Koblenz so I appreciate these photos. I particularly like the one in the third picture. Thanks for posting, Francis. S.

    Franco-Prussian M1857/60 Mann. Pickelhaube

For someone on a budget who wants a genuine helmet of the period, this will do if it doesn't go too high. You can find a seemingly very clean example on the French site ABCollection - if you want to pay three thousand dollars... A knowledgable friend over here with an outstanding WW1 Imperial...

    Franco-Prussian M1857/60 Mann. Pickelhaube

To me it looks genuine, but not exactly a sleeper and it's had a very hard life! It is true that this model is much scarcer than the WW1 models, but there are also far fewer collectors to this period. So they are hard to find, but also hard to sell. Thanks for pointing this out Ron. I've...

    M16 Stalhelm with Camouflage

Camos vary enormously. You get sharp borders, round ones, none at all, splodges and just about everything else. Looks good to me. (I have no connection with the seller and don't know who he is.)

    Dreyse M1862

That's terrific news Gus, now I will be able to bathe in them every night. My good lady will be thrilled!

    Franco-Prussian War equipment

I am looking for Prussian infantry ammunition pouches, knapsack, frog for sidearm and 50 mm belt not dated later than 1870. Please pm if you have any of this to sell. I am ok for belt buckle and water canteen. Thanks.

    Dreyse M1862

Hello Keith If you happen to speak German, this is a useful page: http://www.waffensammler-kuratorium.de/Dillenbajo%20M%2062/BajoM62ge.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If not, I can tell you that inter alia it says the bayonet should be browned, not bright like the M1841...
