    M1867 Prussian water bottle

I am selling an M1867 Prussian infantry water bottle. First the faults: one of the lower strap loops is missing, the other has come partly unstitched, and most of the thong which once linked the bottle cap ring to an upper strap loop is gone. Other than that, the condition is surprisingly good...

    M1867 helmets

Hi Johan Thanks for this information. I can understand why Belgian collectors would be more interested in the later haubes, as you have no real historical connection with the 1870 war, but a substantial connection with the one that followed it! It is exactly the same here in England. Early...

    M60 and M67 values

Hi All You don't often see the 1860 and 1867 models, so it's hard to know how to value them. Does anyone feel like suggesting a ballpark figure you'd expect to pay for a decent example of these models, just plain Prussian infantry? I'm maybe looking to buy, particularly a good 1867. Thanks in...

    British Sun Helmet

Hi This helmet is of the WW1 period, or shortly before or after. The interior and esp. the cork spacers give it away. It has been blancoed and worn without a puggaree, which may have been done for wear in India. Best wishes, S.

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Geo Thank you for taking the trouble to do that. I appreciate it. Best wishes, S.

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Hi Wyliecoyote I will have to take some photos of it and get a Flickr or Photobucket account, which I think I need to post pics on here. That plus the question of resizing photos has put me off, but I will make the effort eventually! Flasheart posted some pics of his M41 on this forum 2 years...

Pickelhaube M95 Hessen Fahnrich Leib Garde Inf. Regt. 115

This looks like Gaul, if you accept that the name begins and ends with a flourish. Gaul certainly is a German name. What a very, very nice pickelhaube!

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Guys I'd also expect simple regimental markings such as IR 47, etc for Prussia. There is plainly a Prussian eagle (twice) on the side of the action. If it is not naval but some sort of honorary title, maybe it relates to a regiment raised from a distinct region that was part of Prussia in 1862...

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Never mind, just pass me a couple of those Sam Adams and we'll say no more about it!

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

All suggestions very welcome! Was there a See Matrosen Regiment? I googled it and found nothing, but am doubtful because "See Matrosen" seems to be a tautology, like "Sea Sailor Regiment". I only know of the Seebataillon, but don't know whether they would have used the M1841 or the M1860, as...

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Geo Thanks - yes of course, it hadn't occurred to me that being pre-Imperial would put it outside the scope of that book. There are what I assume to be Prussian acceptance marks, ie. a crown over FW on one side, also a couple of tiny Prussian eagles, and on the other side a number of different...

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Surely somebody must know the answer to this! I am starting to think that if nobody here does, I might never find out. I don't have the Noll book on Imperial abbreviations. I agree with supporting researchers by buying their books and regularly do so in my own field, but this is very much a...

    Regimental marking on Dreyse M1841

Hello one and all! My first post on this forum. I’m a collector, mainly of British WW1 uniforms and equipment but I also have an interest in the mid C19 European wars, especially those of 1866 and 1870. I wonder if anyone can identify the regimental marking on my Dreyse M1841? It is SMR, 5C...
