    Askari Postcard

Yes, and the Colonial headgear was quite diverse and interesting such as that worn by the Askari on the above postcard. I have also shown the period Waldorf Astoria uniform book as well as a nicely done recent book on German Colonial forces utilizing quite a few period colored uniform plates...

The Old Way To Add To Your Collection

I bought stuff from both Joe Walters and Ron Manion. You had to be careful to look closely at what you were buying but one could get some wonderful things. Joe was shot and killed because he trusted the kid who shot him and let him get too close. He always carried a .38 S&W in his pocket but...

    Askari Postcard

Gentlemen, I have some German Colonial stuff that I have collected so I thought I would show a Colonial Veteran Group post card featuring an Askari. There were Schutztruppen and Polizeitruppen in the German Colonies so the Polizei-Soldaten are of interest to me. There was a set of cards...

    Fireman pickelhaube

An iconic style of Feuerwehr leather helmet. Interesting that it has a leather comb instead of the usually seen metal comb. Nice job!

    Hussar Regt. 17

Tim, I have sold and bought a lot of swords at SOS over the years and I think you are thinking correctly concerning prices. Well priced swords sell quickly while dealers carry around expensive swords for years. I think your swords in question are more in the lower and middle end of these...

    My other KD89's.

seagull, Here is another set of similar matching sword candlesticks. These candlesticks were made up from original existing NOS (new old stock) parts during the Allied occupation after WWII in order to generate a little money or trade material for cigarettes or food. Since these were...

    Literature

A basic set of books on German Police helmets would be by Erich Radecke, "Polizei-Abzeichen Helme-Heraldik-Historie". This is a three volume set covering different periods of time published by Soldi-Verlag. ISBN 3-928 028-44-8. I hope this is helpful.

    The Pallasch

Shown below is an example of an "Offizier-Pallasch mit feinzisellerter-Montur" their Nr.153 shown in the WKC edged weapons catalog. This example was made by WKC and had the knight head logo on the ricasso. It has an extensively chiseled hilt and is silver plated. The grip is black celluloid...

    The Pallasch

Gents, Here are a couple of examples of the Bavarian Pallasch. Below is an example of an "Offizier-Pallasch mit glatter Montur" as shown in the WKC edged weapons catalog. This particular example was made by Eickhorn and has the back-to-back squirrels logo. It has a plain nickel plated hilt...

    Bavarian light cavalry officer's saber

A wonderful Bavarian sword display! I love it. The older WK&C catalog shows both Bavarian swords and the lion hilt pommel sword was offered with a fixed or folding guard. The Pallasch is shown in the early and later WKC catalogs with either plain or chiseled fittings. Yours is very neat...

    Immediate Post-WW1 German Police

This is a great photo. The fellow holding the clipboard appears to be a Justiz (Prison Police) NCO. From his collar tabs I suspect this is his armory. Justizverwaltung Police wore this style of tunic with concealed buttons on the front with distinctive insignia. They were responsible for...

    Eisenbahn helmet

Forgive my ignorance but should the chin strap scales be brass or nickel plated? I cannot tell if the plating has worn off or if the white metal fittings do not include the chin strap. It is a beautiful helmet with great Eisenbahn property markings.

It makes sense since the M89 Cavalry sword hilt is finished in white metal being nickel plated steel.

    Another Hessian Infantry Officer Saber

Thanks CCJ and Bob. I think the small size of Hesse limited the customer base for swords so they are all few and far between in my experience. The Imperial period WK&C catalog only mentions the Hessian M89 Cavalry sword in a line drawing. This generic nickeled sword with the flat steel...

    Another Hessian Infantry Officer Saber

cptbob showed his excellent Lion head Hessian Infantry Officer saber yesterday so I thought I would show my example for comparison. This is the standard Hessian Infantry Officer saber with the hilt made in nickel plate as offered in the circa 1905 WK&C catalog. My sword was made by Pack...

    Hessian Infantry Officer's Saber

A neat Hessian sword. Shown in the circa 1905 W K & C catalog as a Hessian Infantry Officer sword. Shown in later WKC catalogs in this form with an added crossed hammer motif as a Miner sword (Bergbaubeamte) sword. So, WKC re-designed this style into a Mining Official sword after WWI. "Parts...
