An unknown German feldgrau officer uniform

Not an issue on an early war M1907 Leib-Regiment tunic. The Leib-Regiment did not initially wear collar Litzen on the field dress. Regards Glenn

    A Prussian Infantry officer 1907 Feldrock - IR 28

I agree; there were numerous Wiemanns commissioned during the war but just two with the Rufname of Fritz/Friedrich: Leutnant d.R. (4.10.14) Fritz Wiemann, Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 7 Leutnant d.L. (16.5.17) Fritz Wiemann, Landwehr Kraftfahr-Truppen The latter appears to be a good match as he...

    Waterloo minenwerfer officer

Having consulted the regimental history of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 77, I can add a couple of more details: Karl Alvermann was born in Munster, Kreis Soltau on 30 August 1876 and was commanding the regiment's Minenwerfer-Kompanie when he was killed in action by British machine gun fire...

    Waterloo minenwerfer officer

The name is Alvermann. Hermann Georg Karl Alvermann, was commissioned as a Leutnant der Reserve into Füsilier-Regiment Nr. 73 on 18 August 1915. He is shown serving in Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 77 at the time of his death on 30 March 1918 at Serre. Both IR 77 and Minenwerfer-Kompanie 20 were...

    A Prussian Infantry officer 1907 Feldrock - IR 28

The Leutnant Willmann in Infanterie-Regiment von Goeben (2. Rheinisches) Nr. 28 was Otto Friedrich Karl, born 6 March 1895. I understand his given name was Karl but of course Fritz was a diminutive of Friedrich. However, more compelling is the date on the tunic: 27.7.17. Fähnrich Willmann was...

Kaiser and officers of the 1st Leib Husaren Regiment

I found the image in the Zeitschrift für Heereskunde and the names of the officers are shown below. The photo was taken on 3 July 1912 on the terrace of the Leibhusaren officers' mess. Names from the top and from left to right. Regards Glenn

What kind of regiment is it?

Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 18 wore yellow straps/Epaulette fields as a component of V. Armee-Korps (until 1 April 1890) and XVII. Armee-Korps until its transfer to the newly formed XX. Armee-Korps effective 1 October 1912 when it received the colour light blue. Regards Glenn

A entire dream collection in one photo.

A super photograph indeed. The principal actors on the front row raise a couple of interesting points: Zahlmeister Knolle: Ludwig Knolle (5 August 1866-) is still uniformed as a Zahlmeisteraspirant; he was not appointed to the rank of Zahlmeister until 17 April 1905. He was for many years the...

    Grenadier Regt 11 Breslau 1908

Steve, unfortunately not. Although the regimental history of GR 11 was published in 1908, it does not offer anything that I can tie down to this occasion. Regards Glenn

Kaiser and officers of the 1st Leib Husaren Regiment

Thanks Sandy, I assume that is Zahlmeister Georg Baedke on the extreme left. He appears to have white piping on the collar and cuffs. Regards Glenn

Kaiser and officers of the 1st Leib Husaren Regiment

I am fairly sure that a copy of this image was published in the Deutsches Soldaten Jahrbuch many years ago with the names of those pictured. Unfortunately much of my library is in storage prior to a house move. I can positively ID a couple of the other officers from memory. The...

    Garde Grenadier Regt 4 officers

Thanks Steve, as far as I can make out, the commanding officer stood next to the Grand Duchess is the then Oberst and later Generalleutnant Hans von Below. This would date the photo around 1912/13. Given that the adjutant in the front row wears three decorations on his medal bar, I would opine...

    Garde Grenadier Regt 4 officers

The black bush was worn by members of the Füsilier battalion of the regiment. Has to be Großherzogin Luise von Baden. Regards Glenn

    Garde Grenadier Regt 4 officers

Steve, are you able to please post a sharper version of this image? It would be helpful (for me) to date and identify some of those present. Presumably post the 1910 abolition of the lower sword sling loop. Thanks Regards Glenn

Brunswick Hussar Regiment Nr. 17 (NCO Edition)

Well, he certainly served with HR 15 but it seems not until 1918. Unteroffizier (Fahnenjunker) Teixeira de Mattos of HR 15 was promoted to Fähnrich on 8 May 1915 but was medically discharged (wegen Dienstunbrauchbarkeit ausgeschieden) with the Charakter (brevet) of a Leutnant on 14 September...
