Beautiful helmets! That spike on the Saxon helmet is the tallest I’ve ever seen. But my favorite is the morion.

Cap of the Life Guards Hussar Regiment RIA

What a beautiful piece of headgear. Original Imperial Russian pieces are scarce, especially something as fragile as this. It had to survive World War One, the Revolution, the Civil Wars, and World War Two, not to mention the Communist regime and its denunciation of anything to do with Tsarist...

Solved! Question on Book by American author.

I don’t think Steve was referring to the errors. I think, like me, he wanted to buy everything in it.

Solved! Question on Book by American author.

I wore my original copy out. At the time it was published it was groundbreaking, for a book in English. It's basic, but there is a lot of information packed in it, and I love the photographs. Now I have the Larcade books, and Laine, but unless I'm looking for a specific bit of information I find...

Wow. I would hate to think another member here saw my post and bought it out from under you. How very rude.

Has anyone ever seen this Stahlhelm insignia?

I've seen a similar helmet or maybe it was the same one with identical insignia, posted on a forum some time ago. Can't remember which forum, but the upshot was no one had seen anything like it, or knew what it is.

    Regt. Markings Removed

I have seen markings blacked out as well as scraped. It may also have something to do with being turned in to be reissued, the helmet was no longer property of the regiment it was originally issued and marked to.

    Goodbye for now,

Good luck! My initial military training was pretty rough, but that was long ago and far away. Best advice I got: “don’t think beyond today” and “it’s not that difficult to stay straight”.

    Need help with 2 Pickelhauben

What a tough crowd. If it is reasonably priced, I would jump on that Wurttemberg helmet in a heartbeat. The outstanding condition of that helmet greatly outweighs the lack of chinstrap and kokardes. The wappen is a different color because it has never been polished and retains its original...

    Artillery helmet with marking

Possibly Artillerie Ersatz Truppe Juterborg. There was an Artillery School at Juterborg.

    Chlorine Gas Oxidation

Gas is corrosive. Look at a WW1 gas mask filter, especially German ones (because they were picked up on the battlefield and therefore actually used) , they rust from the inside out due to the gas trapped in the filter - as it's supposed to be. Having said that, I don't believe oxidation on...

    ???

We determined a long time ago that the felt helmets with leather edging were fakes produced in the UK in the 1970s, if I recall correctly.

M15 Leather Chin Strap Original or Repro??

Even though the leather is old, the edges show it was freshly cut.

History of the Renault FT Tank

Great article! A small correction - the tank in the last photo in the article (the one with the Goliath) is actually an American produced M1917, not a French made FT.
